Counterweight

a flame with the wind falls captured in the chaos 
at the corner of oxford and that street with the dancehall
first on the scene we were lit up on the corner of

an elevated heartbeat, darling curiosity
a run in with the end of it all
and now this street is crowded and a shattered scream is drowning
under countless conversations and the noise of it all

how, everybody here seems to know so much of tragedy
as they fall into the old routine of sharing all their shots for the vanity
..and move on

you can't light a fire behind us to get us out of bed
but when this errant cigarette offers a spectacle, 
 alert the press

all we want is the taste of disaster
 to fill our lungs with no thought of the expense
all we want and all that we're after,  
behind the smokescreen façade

we're just here for entertainment
