Een nieuw arrangement voor fanfare uit het rijke archief van het Metropole Orkest

Op 11 januari 2014 bracht het Gelders Fanfare Orkest (GFO) “John Brown’s Body” van Rob Pronk, in een nieuw arrangement van Jaspers Staps, in première. De compositie stamt uit het rijke archief van het Metropole Orkest. Uit dit archief verschijnen binnen afzienbare tijd nog meer arrangementen voor harmonie- en fanfareorkest. Deze bijzondere uitgaven zullen hun steentje bijdragen aan de verdere ontwikkeling van de lichte muziek binnen de blaasmuziek.

Al enkele decennia is men binnen de blaasmuziek bezig de lichte muziek te ontwikkelen. Vanaf het moment dat het drumstel standaard werd binnen het blaasorkest en er steeds meer affiniteit begon te ontstaan voor dit genre muziek, ontwikkelde zich ook de kwaliteit van de arrangementen en composities. Niet altijd met succes trouwens! 
De militaire orkesten gingen ons vele jaren voor met het spelen van vaak zeer geslaagde arrangementen van toppers aller tijden. Vele van die arrangementen vonden de laatste decennia, door toedoen van goede arrangeurs de weg naar de amateurorkesten. Sinds midden jaren negentig van de vorige eeuw heeft de lichte muziek een enorme vlucht genomen. Als we met z’n allen zeer kritisch blijven bij de keuze van de betere arrangementen en composities, dan zal de lichte muziek een volwaardig programmatisch aandeel krijgen en behouden binnen de blaasmuziek.

In juni 2013 was er in Hilversum een bijzonder project met medewerking van het fameuze Metropole Orkest. Dit unieke orkest opende haar deuren en gaf dirigenten uit de HaFaBra-wereld de ruimte en de gelegenheid te werken met het voltallige orkest. Alles onder toeziend oog van de dirigenten Jan Stulen en Maurice Luttikhuis. Een van de gekozen composities was “John Brown’s Body” van de hand van de bekende arrangeur, wijlen Rob Pronk. De aanwezigen hebben genoten en vonden het een bijzondere ervaring. Artes7 was initiatiefnemer en medeverantwoordelijk voor het realiseren van dit project. In samenwerking met de KNFM, VNM en de BvO werd deze driedaagse gerealiseerd. Er is inmiddels een convenant ondertekend over een verdere samenwerking tussen deze partijen. Een samenwerking, waarbij de lichte muziek in een breder kader de ruimte krijgt zich te ontwikkelen binnen de blaasmuziek. Als vijfde partner heeft het WMC het convenant ondertekend. Het vervolg op dit project is het laten arrangeren van toppers uit de bibliotheek van het Metropole Orkest, een bijzondere aanvulling op het repertoire voor blaasorkest.

Inmiddels is de bekende arrangeur Jasper Staps erin geslaagd “John Brown’s Body”  te arrangeren voor fanfareorkest. Op zaterdagavond 11 januari 2014 heeft het Gelders Fanfare Orkest onder leiding van de jonge, talentvolle dirigent Erik van de Kolk, tijdens zijn traditionele Nieuwjaarsconcert in Nunspeet, dit eerste arrangement uit het archief van het Metropole Orkest in première gebracht. 

Als arrangeur is Jasper voornamelijk actief voor diverse Harmonie- en Fanfare orkesten, in het bijzonder de Fanfare van de Koninklijke Landmacht en de Marinierskapel. Ook arrangeerde hij voor 'The Jazz Orchestra Of The Concertgebouw', Frits Landenbergen's 'Baileo Big Band' en saxofonist Michael Brecker. Andere artiesten die Jasper's arrangementen zongen zijn o.a. Trijntje Oosterhuis, Karin Bloemen, Gerard Joling, Edsilia Rombley, Belle Perez, Guus Meeuwis en vele anderen.
