The 5th instalment of the Legacy series contains works which are not published and with the exception of Corona di Sonetti are unlikely to be performed. Russian Jerusalem is an opera in 3 Acts based on the book by Elaine Feinstein, exploring the repressive and often brutal relationship between the Soviet state and its artists and writers. Broken Forms is an orchestral piece which is dedicated to the memory of my parents.

Act I Prologue and Scenes 1 - 5

This is the whole of Act I of Russian Jerusalem, an opera in 3 Acts, based on the book by Elaine Feinstein, that is currently a work in progress. In the 5 scenes of this Act, we are transported back to the Stray Dog cabaret in St. Petersburg, 1913 where Osip Mandelstam reads a poem; we meet Marina Tsvetaeva on the banks of the river as she flees the German advance on Moscow in 1941; we overhear a meeting in Moscow, 1934, between Ilya Ehrenberg and Isaac Babel; we meet Osip Mandelstam again, in internal exile in Voronezh after the discovery of his satire on Stalin; and finally we see the Ehrenbergs return to Moscow at the height of the Great Terror in 1937 and their desperate efforts to escape back to the West.

In honor of Pi.  This is created from the sound of a wine glass being rubbed by a wet finger and the sound of a tabla drum.  There are three loops.  Each loop goes through the first one hundred digits of Pi where each digit of Pi controls the pitch and amplitude of each note.  In the first loop, there are 3.14 seconds between each note.  The second loop starts 3.141 seconds after the first.  In the second loop, there are 3.1415 seconds between each note.  The third loop starts 3.14159 seconds after the second.  In the third loop (the tabla), there are 3.141592 seconds between each hit.  Finally, the duration of this piece is 314 seconds (and some change).  I hope you enjoy it. Peace.

Back in 1973 when Egypt went to war with Israel, I stood my wife up for a tennis date.  Even though there was a war now going on, she was not happy that I stood her up.  Only recently did she tell me that the Tennis Club had been closed due to the war.

In the 3rd section of La Vita Nuova, Dante sends a sonnet to his friends in which he describes a dream in which he had a vision of Love holding his beloved and feeding to her Dante's heart. He is disturbed by the dream and asks his friends for their interpretation of its meaning.

		Into whose sight this present rhyme may chance,
		That, writing back, each may expound its sense,
		Greetings in Love, who is their Lord, I offer.
		Already of those hours a third was over
		Wherein all stars display their radiance,
