‘Weary’ is the first EP release of 2024 by John Jenkins. It follows his critically acclaimed album ‘Tuebrook’, released in July 2023, and includes the previous 2024 standalone tracks ‘The Reason’, ‘Bury Myself in the Sand’, ‘I Don’t Want to be That Guy Anymore’, ‘Dressing up the Truth’ and ‘Do You Ever Think About Me?’ alongside the title track ‘Weary’
With a release date of September 13th, 2024, ‘Weary’ is co-produced by John Jenkins and Jon Lawton (Sami Yusuf, Ian Prowse, Only Child, Visions of Albion) and mastered by Pete Maher (The Rolling Stones, U2, Patti Smith).

I am very pleased to announce a July 7th release date for ‘Tuebrook’, the follow-up to the Fretsore Records album ‘If You Can’t Forgive You Can’t Love’ from acclaimed Liverpool artist John Jenkins. Joining John on the recording is regular multi-instrumentalist and producer Jon Lawton and touring and live show partner Pippa Murdie (mandolin/guitar and vocals). Recorded at Crosstown Studios in Liverpool. 

John’s songs unfold cinematically and capture moments of human vulnerability, and his warm, inviting vocals tell delicate stories of the intimacy of our daily lives. More stripped back than previous releases, the power of ‘Tuebrook’ comes from John’s blend of fiction and memoir—some songs are personal and intimate with details drawn from John’s own life, others are the stuff of novels and cinema.

Weary

 ‘Tell Me Joe’ marks John Jenkins' first release of 2025. This time, it’s a collaboration with ‘John Jenkins and the James Street Band,’ following his well-received solo album ‘Tuebrook’ and the solo EP ‘Weary.’ John shares: I’m currently working on my next solo album, set to release in July 2025, which I’m really looking forward to. At the same time, I’m halfway through recording the next project with ‘John Jenkins and the James Street Band’ and hope to return to the studio with them later this year. The other band members have been quite busy as well. Dave Orford (Drums) has been in high demand, performing with a top ELO tribute band, while Chris Jones (Bass) has been playing with local favorites like Cast, Visions of Albion, and Helen Maw. Pippa Murdie (Mandolin and Backing Vocals) has been collaborating with me on my more stripped-down performances. David Nixon (Harmonica/Percussion/Backing) has just released his own album titled ‘Red Skies’ under the name ‘David Nixon’s Navigation.’ This song is all about having fun. I usually write very different songs for the band compared to my solo work. In the past, I focused on crafting songs that would resonate well in live performances with my former band ‘The Persuaders,’ and I’ve decided to bring that approach back, incorporating some catchy tunes into the mix. Tony Peers on Trumpet truly shines on this track

Jackson’s Farm
I wrote this song (as well as I’m Almost over you) within a few days of each other using the same tuning - Double Drop Down D.
I asked Amy Chalmers to write some string parts to enhance the spacious sound – the briefing I gave was Bruce Springsteen. 
I was absolutely over the moon with the arrangement – in fact she did another 2 songs on the same day for me that are on a future project which again are absolutely stunning to my ears. 
This is a song about hurt and loneliness and about a character who is living a solitary existence, working his farm throughout the year. I wanted the sound to be as stripped back as possible.
Just a mad fact for anyone remotely interested. I used the surname name “Jackson” before in an old Persuaders song that I wrote in the 1980’s called “Hunted”. This time around when I was thinking of a surname as my partner Lynn’s father surname was “Jackson” and he had barns and fields it was felt a natural choice. I also like the Johnny and June Cash song “Jackson” as well although to be honest it probably stems from my subconscious as I had a teacher in the infants school called “Miss Jackson”

“Growing Old (Songs From My Front Porch)”

The follow up to the acclaimed “John Jenkins and the James Band” “Looking for that American Dream” album. 

Recorded at the famous Liverpool Crosstown Studios and co-produced by Jon Lawton, Mastered by Peter Maher

Recorded with a selection of musicians that includes a duet with old friend and “Nashville Liverbird” Siobhan Maher-Kennedy and some beautiful string parts written by Amy Chalmers, the album consists of 12 reflective stripped back songs.

John says “I really wanted to record a selection of intimate songs that could resonate with the listener. Stories of life, family, friends, good times, sad times, loss and happiness”

John Jenkins is a firm Liverpool favourite, well known and loved from his appearances around the city with his solo performances and those with his “James Street Band”.

Recent support spots with Chris Difford (Squeeze), Robert Vincent, Dean Owens and the Southerners, The Way Down Wanderers and Jarrod Dickenson have widened his audience 

He was joint winner of the 2015 of the Liverpool Acoustic Songwriting Challenge, and finalists in 2016 and 2019. 
His song “Silhouettes” was a finalist in UK Country Radio Show song of the year 2019.
His song “Looking for that American Dream” is a finalist in their 2020 shortlist as well as the “FabChart Radio” songs of the year for this year.
