Paulo Almeida, front man for Dili Allstars, Sol Nation and Mystic Trio has embarked  on a solo project and is releasing his third single, ‘Stay A While’.

Staying true to his island roots, this new track sets a scene for lover’s reggae, vibing with lyrics sung in both English and Tetum (Timor Leste), Paulo’s native language. The song speaks to spending time with the people you love, creating lasting memories and forging deep connections, opening to the mystery of life, love and the other side.

The five-time Juno Award winning group The Beaches return with the first tracks from their upcoming third album, ‘No Hard Feelings.’ In this SoundCloud-exclusive commentary, The Toronto-based rock band breaks down tracks from the project. Jordan Miller, who co-founded the band with her sister, Kylie, describes “Last Girls at the Party” as “a really fun bop,” adding, “I totally think we nailed it.” Meanwhile, the song “Did I Say Too Much” strikes another chord: it’s about a painful relationship their bandmate Leandra  Earl endured. I’m not going to dissect the instrumentals on this track.

There’s no need to, they are lush, polished, precise, and everything needed to support the vocals.

The vocals are what interests me.

They are sensational, and very carefully crafted

The song appears to be 100% harmony between Renee and Mister Co, but it’s not. More about that later.

You could almost say that there is no melody to this.

The two vocalists spend most of their time circling their harmonies around arpeggios, and they really do that well, better than well actually.

This fascinated me so much that I needed a couple of run throughs to find the melody and the solo vocals.

They are there, but unlike many songs which live in harmony, the solo breaks are not providing contrasting views, the views are in harmony as much as the music is in harmony.

You hear what I did there!

As promised this is definitely a free-flowing soulful groove, and an enticing track from their EP.

Chris Wilson has been an essential part of blues and rock music in Australia since taking the stage with the Sole Twisters almost 40 years ago. Stints with Harem Scarem and Paul Kelly and the Coloured Girls followed and he formed his own band, Crown Of Thorns, in 1982.
