Paul Oakenfold - Radio 1 Essential Mix 17-09-1995

In early 1995 one of London’s best ever nightclub venues, Turnmills, hosted the first edition of The Gallery. This became a Friday institution and I was a regular there. 

The great thing about the Gallery Friday nights in the 90s was the musical journey. Beginning with up-front house, the music would get harder and more trancey as the night wore on. DJs such as Tall Paul, Seb Fontaine, Danny Rampling and Lottie would rock the place. But it was resident Steve Lee who used to take the roof right off during his legendary late sets of trancey bangers until 6 or 7am. 

I looked back at the harder / trancey records that I bought from 1995 to the end of 1999 and created this mix as a representation of the sort of stuff that made up the later sets in the small hours of the morning. Excuse the odd hiss and skip, this vinyl is 20+ years old. Enjoy!
