«Euphoric Attempts» is a finespun, voluminous manifestation of euphoria, a testimony to creativity, produced at a time when the outside world seems to be slowly disintegrating. The musical language is pure, vast, resilient, and vulnerable. The compositions of Feldermelder have a tonality both strange and familiar, intensified and influenced by classical music, yet distinguished by the coalescence of contrasting styles.

«Euphoric Attempts» relates to the state of our external surroundings but also refers to our inner life: it passes through our memories — through our organism — through our stories, and intends to elude the cold grip of analytical listening, instead retrieving intrinsic truths. The track titles signify a form of homage to our inner individuality, existing in parallel with the severities of the tangible, the external.

For this album, Feldermelder draws together compositions from his extensive archives, focussing on material that reflects the simple joy of making music. As a counterpoint to the abstract complexities and intricate rhythms of his live performances, here Feldermelder creates candid compositions of purity and minimalism, finding a sense of elegance in the details. «Euphoric Attempts» discovers the prospect of liberation and vitality in concealed intimacies, capturing their resemblance in gentle, elaborate, and prodigious movements of sound.

Feldermelder is a Swiss musician, sound designer, producer, and installation artist. He is co-founder of -OUS and part of the audio-visual collective Encor.studio. He has previously released several releases on -OUS, both as a solo artist, and in collaboration with Sara Oswald and Julian Sartorius. Feldermelder’s influences range from pioneering early electronic music to contemporary analogue electronics to classic jazz and beyond. The diversity of the music that inspires him is mirrored in his own work, which illustrates an ever-evolving sound, and indicates that influence is seen as both map and compass, guiding divergent inclinations.

"Electronic Music Tracks 2016 - 2020" preview

‘Sounds of the Modern Hospital' - Volume 1 in the Sonograph Sound Effects Series - is a long-playing sound effects record in a limited edition of 250 copies. The record was produced by Mark Vernon during a two year period as digital artist in residence at Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert, Scotland.

The sounds featured on the LP were recorded in several different hospital departments including: Anaesthesiology, the Clinical Simulation Centre, Health Records, Outpatients reception, the Laboratories, Ophthalmology, Oral and Maxillofacial, Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, the Mail Room, the Neonatal Unit, Pharmacy and the Renal Unit. In addition to Forth Valley Royal, recordings were also made in Stirling and Falkirk Community Hospitals. Thanks to all staff and patients in NHS Forth Valley Hospitals for their help and co-operation.

To breathe, is to activate a certain space. Short breaths, deep breaths, dying breaths or sensual ones - they evoke variety of features and peculiarities that the breath embodies. Breath is also a precondition of voice, and further, of a spoken word. Paving the path for every physiological and philosophical activity, breath is essential to all we do and all that we are. 
Auditory situations in this piece are fluidly changing from one to another in a constant fluctuation and transfiguration of the musical material. Acoustic spaces inside of which the music is being situated, give room for the sounds to appear, to change and disappear, develop and transform, and inside of these spaces, the ear can swift freely from one sound object to another in a spatial and non-linear listening experience.

Commissioned for the Tingles & Clicks project by the Musikprotokoll 2020 and supported by the program "Creative Europe" of the European Union and SHAPE platform.

The work was presented in ambisonics, binaural and stereo formats. It was composed for an interactive environment, and the sections (structure, duration) were open. This is one of its renderings (structure and format-wise), made for the presentation at Radio Belgrade in 2020.

Presented at Musikprotokoll, Graz, at Radio Belgrade 3, CYNETART festival and Ö1 radio (Zeit-Ton radio show).

La composition de cette pièce repose sur l’analyse d’enregistrements de terrains réalisés en Normandie et en Val de Loire, dans lesquels j’ai pu isoler diverses manifestations de faune pour m’intéresser uniquement à leur aspect temporel.

Les phénomènes de réitérations, de micro-variations et d'isochronies constituaient des formes d’invariants entre diverses espèces, sur divers territoires et en divers moments de la journée ou de l'année.

Refusant l'imitation, et retenant exclusivement les caractéristiques temporelles des espèces enregistrées, j’ai cherché à juxtaposer des matériaux comme des espèces imaginaires, jusqu’à parvenir à des états d’ambiguïté avec d’autres références que sont la synthèse granulaire ou la musique électronique progressive.

La lente évolution des paysages m’a conduit vers une conception plus minimale du développement et du continuum, et l'idée de déambulation a orienté la pièce vers de lentes émergences et bascules entre les plans sonores, certains matériaux lointains se rapprochant peu à peu pour s'éloigner tout aussi lentement.
Un autre parcours réside dans le geste même de l’écriture, qui cherche à rassembler, à synchroniser ces autonomies dans les relations instrumentales pour constituer une proposition structurelle.

Far from the extended still lifes and mises en abîmes of their acclaimed Penultimate Press debut A Sunset for Walter (PP43, 2019), Noetinger & Pateras’ 15 Coruscations weaves frequencies & stirs data into an agitated series of deft psychoacoustic miniatures. Employing electronics as a deformed mirror reflecting joyous lacerations & interweavings, 15 Coruscations borrows from both brut & skilled musical practises, emerging from the current despair to blister light across the moribund horizontalities of post-surveillance musical product. 

Jérôme Noetinger (Marseille, 1966) is one of the most respected composer/performers of electronic music working today. Discovering the ReVox B77 as a powerful tool for live electro-acoustic creation in the mid 1980s, he has developed a singular performance language unmatched in agility & invention. 

Anthony Pateras (Melbourne/Naarm, 1979) works at an evolving nexus of notation, improvisation, electro-acoustics + keyboard instruments. Active since the late 90s as both a composer of concert music and independent bandleader, he has created a unique body of work across multiple genres & contexts. 

Noetinger & Pateras’ working relationship began in 2009 in the Thymolphthalein quintet (Editions Mego, 2011), extending through to the development of the 6-channel tape part for Pateras’ percussion sextet Beauty Will Be Amnesiac Or Will Not Be At All (Immediata, 2017). Establishing their duo in 2018 with A Sunset For Walter, they have performed across Europe in both piano/tape and pure electronic configurations. 15 Coruscations is their latest testament to their quest for the unheard, deploying tape, computer, samplers, garbage, environmental recordings, lo-fi electronics, hi-fi circuitry and a deep love of all things concrète.
