￼Indianapolis,Indiana is where Johnathan Ray Young AKA Jay Henney resides. Born and raised in the circle city of dreams is what he likes to think of it. Jay Henney is an up and coming independent underground artist rapper-singer 
and all-around performer on road the to success chasing his dreams.
His ambition to be an artist started when his parents Mark & Diana Young were pastors at a local church in Indianapolis who kept Jay, his two brothers, and two sisters active in the congregation. They were always doing things such as singing and playing instruments so he quickly grew accustomed  to bringing out his energy and emotions in front of an audience at a young age.
Jay Henney fell in love with R&B music and the sounds of the acoustic guitar among many other instruments. Jay Henney started composing music at the age of 16 which turned him into a modern day artist/protégé. 

Through the influence and lifestyles of his peers in his community and the music he listen to, he abruptly landed himself into the penal system at the age of 17. In love with the music and with the lifestyle. He made a decision that would change his life forever…
 
He ended up receiving a 20 years sentenced to the department of corrections with the possibility to modify after five years. He was focused on￼obtaining a GED and completed substance abuse courses while deep in the belly of the beast. Jay Henney didn’t let this stop his ambition or discourage him on his journey to become an artist. Living in a two man cell with 18 hours of lockdown. The only way to stay in tune with the outside world was to purchase a TV and contemplate what his future will hold. He watched the BET Top 10 countdown and listened to the hip-hop channel to stay relevant and find ways to attract people through his lyrics and sound.
He made it routine to write music daily and work out, after five years and was released with a modification.

Jay Henney jumped right back into recording music at a local studio on the southside of Indianapolis. Jay Henney started performing local shows, open mics, and quickly made his way to opening up for big name artists such as Twister, Little White, Caskey, Hay Stack, and Jelly Roll. Keeping the momentum from the performances he reached out to Antoine Pain, CEO of music & entertainment. When he saw an opportunity to win a chance to sign a record deal, he took the offer and left for the contest in Bowling Green Kentucky. 
He showed up and gave it his all he had and won the contest signing a single song distribution deal. Jay Henney’s content comes from a place in his mind where every American can relate and that’s the American dream.
