THIS song, no matter year, music genre, popularity, is simply one of the best ever made. Guitars sing; plucked with almost reckless but controlled abandon; great percussion moving things along, John singing his ass off and harmonies to support; crescendo at the end,  driven by the drums and the exploding acoustic guitars; at the end you are positively exhausted BUT you have to listen again. What a singular, spectacular musical experience.

My friend John Batdorf and his cohort Mark Rodney will always hold a very special place in my heart because I booked them as the opening act for the very first concert I ever promoted: Linda Ronstadt at Zellerbach Auditorium on the UC Berkeley campus on December 2, 1974. I personally chose Batdorf & Rodney to open my Rondstadt concert because I fell in love with this "Can You See Him" song you're about to hear, as well as two other tracks from that same album called "Oh My Surprise" and "Me and My Guitar." Such raw talent and brilliant command of their instruments and vocals. They just don't make music like this anymore these days. Give your ears a treat and take a listen :)

Have always loved this tune. The harmonies -- classic. We pull this album out and play it on Sundays. Very Sunday morning for us. B. Mitchell Reed was originally a NYC DJ in the1960s. He had a show called "The Wide, Wide, Weird World of B. Mitchell Reed," and used his initials a lot: BMR. Didn't know he ended up in LA.

This was off the first album, "Off The Shelf" and became and instant "turntable hit" for us and but Batdorf and Rodney on the map. B Mitchell Reed, a progressive DJ here in LA worked for KRLA AM played this like crazy as did DJs all over the country. This was cut in Muscle Shoals Sound in 1971 with Roger Hawkins on drums, Barry Beckett on keys and David Hood on the bass. This album was produced by Atlantic Records President Ahmet Ertegun. This cut was the first and only take we did.
