A poem by Steve O'Kane for Blackmore Folk Club. Put to music/performed by John Daddio Clarke. To read at your club: “I close my eyes, I see them still, those sacred hours we came to fill with music, laughter, rhyme and song; when shared communion made us strong; through summer’s eve or winters night; the heart’s fire tended; burning bright. A poem here, a ballad there.. a chorus, rising through the air, poised…pregnant as a falling wave that thunders in..then..softly.. fades. The  silence then…that fraction pause, before the smiles and just applause. The faces change, the seasons turn, new voices come old songs to learn of all that shaped us, blood and bone, the land we lived for, root and stone, when bridles creaked and hammers rang, and.. in each pause… a Skylark sang.   Once more I hear their laughter bright as starlight on this darkest night. Forgotten voices fill the air; to lift my soul and make repair; the friends who came my heart to fill;  I close my eyes.. I see them still.”

A track that a group I was in called Kettle of Fish sang many years ago . This is my fantasy of what we might have sounded like if we'd had the time and money , and inclination to develop our sound a bit that was impossible for us 40 Years ago . The Opening vocals are by the lovely Kerry Day , and the middle 8 and outro  by the much missed Lee Wallington . I was very blessed to have such hard working and talented people to work with in what was actually our spare time !
