All these shooting stars
Kept me glued to my car
I slept against the steering wheel again
There’s smoke stuck in my seats
It’s keeping me from sleep
And reminding me my heart has gone rotten
Well, I have scars that burn
Some more than others
But this is one memory that destroys
I made a bottle break
That shook my demons awake
Now I want to sing them back to sleep

But they keep dancing in my brain
So goddamn violently
I won’t stand a chance in this life
If I can’t forgive myself

I walked a thin line
Through the darkness of my mind
Trying to keep from coming down again
It’s just another blackened lung
And the taste of your sinners tongue
It’s not home, but it is something quite akin

These monsters take and take
Until they’ve stained you with their seed
I would feel disgust
If I wasn’t one of them

You write your poetry
To keep from telling the truth
And I write these songs I sing
So I’ll never talk to you
It’s your story versus mine
Who’s to say which one is right?
If there’s one thing I know,
It’s you and I hate me the same

I won’t stand a chance in this life
If I can’t forgive myself
Out of every scar I keep
Well, you know
Just where my demons will sleep

Between Mountains

You can take your old fashioned values
And shove them up your asshole
Right where they belong
The bible belt is holding
All the dogmatic shit up to our waist
Let's cut it now and watch those motherfuckers tumble down.
See I was raised in the church,
Much against my will
Now I see all the problems mixed in the swill
Of church and state

I guess we're all pretty fucked.

My problem's not with the bible,
But more with the reader
They take their misquoted lies
And shove them between their thighs
And out of their mouths

The bullshit starts to spew.

Go hide behind your God
When you've done something wrong
Your make believe will save you every time.
If your God really hates
Anyone who is not white, male, or straight
I’ll gladly raise my fucking glass to
Those of us who will soon be burning in hell.
