It is undeniable that we are living in uncertain times. For those of us failing to fit the patriarchal neoliberalist mould we have lost hope in the future. We can see capitalism is not working but we cannot yet envisage an alternative. We discover that the stability we were instructed to obtain whether it be financial, political or ecological, is fleeting, if at all. The resulting anxiety is an instrument of neoliberalism that prevents many of us from being able to raise consciousness of the structural injustices that alienate us. 

In a world where security is no longer feasible, the only constant we can rely on is change. Barad teaches us that the world is a dynamic process of intra-activity and materialisation, an ongoing ebb and flow of agency. The Buddhist Law of Impermanence proves that nothing in this world is eternal. 
Regardless of ones point of reference we can understand that every aspect of life, physical and mental is in flux and perhaps this transience is the only thing we can depend on. 

Each month we invite an artist to ruminate on these ideas and create an hour of relief from these anxieties. A temporary suspension of reality, where the listener can speculate on alternate modes of existence that reject hetero- patriarchal systems of oppression.

This month we have invited SVLBRD @w_a_r_m_t_h to reflect on this.

transience #02 with Lou Drago

Aerea Negrot offers up the ‘Pisco Sauer’ EP on Shaun J. Wright & Alinka’s Twirl imprint this February, accompanied by remixes from Honey Soundsystem’s Jason Kending and Shaun J. Wright himself.
The inimitable Aerea Negrot has grown to become a highly respected figure in the Berlin underground scene over the past few years. Originally hailing from Venezuala before relocating to the German capital, Negrot has regularly played at clubs such as Salon Zur Wilden Renate, Griessmuehle, about://blank, Suicide Circus and an appearance at Berghaun’s Panorama Bar in 2018 amongst releasing material on BPitch, Batty Bass and more.
Here though we see Aerea Negrot return to Twirl, following a remix of the label-heads’ ‘Need Someone’ back in 2015, with a new single in the shape of ‘Pisco Sauer’. The original mix leads and lays focus on dynamic, crunchy drums, heady resonant bleeps and murky bass arps at its core while soft pads and cinematic leads ebb and flow within.
Honey Soundsystem’s Jason Kendig steps on remix duties next, turning in a more refined take on things, extracting the soul of the original and reshaping it with a more direct groove-driven feel before Twirl co-founder Shaun J. Wright rounds out the package with his remix, opting for off-kilter electro drums and mind-bending analogue arpeggios whilst stirring in the elements of the original throughout.

Offering squelchy dancefloor heavers and left field curveballs, Houses in Motion presents the inaugural release from New Zealand’s Nice Girl; HIM006. A record that drifts between celestial sounding landmarks, HIM006’s A-side starts hard with corrosive acid pads on its first stop and cools down thereafter with dreamy woodwind expeditions and ambient synth drones. Nice Girl provides a record with a B-side thoughtfully switching to deep, tumbling percussion and echoing samples, ramping it up again with the evil of more low pH synths and eerie whispering samples in truly eldritch tracks. Nice Girl debuts here with a versatile, watershed record to spur dancefloors on and soundtrack bedroom listening alike. Seek and you’ll find.
