Applying a minimalist approach to her site-specific sound environments, she creates installations and performances inspired by the architecture of physical spaces, deeply immersing listeners in subtly textured variations, often inducing physical effects that go beyond the ear.

I just love the crackle of vinyl, the saturated distortion of analogue tape, the hiss of wax-cylinders, the aging process of the artifact itself is equally important as the sounds themselves. A night in Habana

Live home studio recording of my set for Imaginary Places, a night I curated + performed at with Kate Carr, Lucie Stepankova + David Toop; IKLECTIK, London, March 2023

AN IMAGINED PLACE

This is a recording of a mug full of water and two sticks of chalk. Chalk has a loud natural reaction when placed in water as the air escapes and bubbles out. Recorded with an Aquarian Audio Hydrophone and a Crank Sturgeon plasti-dipped contact mic inside the mug in the water and a Lom Geofon suctioned onto the outside of the mug. No overdubbing or Fx.

This composition was made from a contiguous excerpt of a longer recording made in the evening of August 17, 2020 in the Bangor City Forest, Bangor, Maine, USA. We are hearing sound from three different hydrophones in a tiny pond and a stereo microphone receiving an airborne soundscape. I was surprised at the amount of activity in the pond at dusk, in which we hear snails rasping, diving beetles stridulating and, possibly, frogs bumping into the hydrophones. And the tree crickets in the forest, mostly pine tree crickets (Oecanthus pini), create a real wall of sound. 

Other creatures are heard from as well...

Dedicated to the great bassist Gary Peacock, who died today (September 5, 2020) at age 85. Requiescat in pace.
