I wrote this piece based on my favorite book series, The Penderwicks written by Jeanne Birdsall.
The story of this piece is it's supposed to capture the mystery and magic that Arundel had when the girls stayed there in the first book. The middle section not only represents the kind of mystery with everything it also has a melancholy feel and that was kind of a reference to the plot point of their mother's death. It's "offstage" so it doesn't actually happen within one of the books but they talk about it a lot and what they remember about when she was dying and I felt that was important to be another layer within this piece. Not only can that middle section sound kind of mystical in a darker way but it also is talking about more than just this place they are staying.
