Paper Crown

John James Tysoe started, as many songwriters do, in a band. A hardcore band. 

In the late nineties and early naughties (that's what they call them, right?) the band, "Avoiding Will" (who were initially named The Liberals) took on their highschool counterparts in many a local battle of the bands. Unfortunately, that was about all they did take on. John was lead singer and guitarist and while they lasted only 5 years, they did get to play the now world-famous Cavern Club, home-venue to the Beatles in Liverpool. The week Avoiding Will split, the band was asked to come to London to talk with a nice lady from a record company. John had the immense dissatisfaction of having to email her and say it would not be happening. It took some time for him to come to terms with the reality of the band being dead. All he had ever wanted to do was play in band for the rest of his life and be successful at it. 

He went back to writing again, drank a lot, didn't record much, went to university and got a useless English degree. So, in 2005, after all of this and having moved back into his parents house he decided to record demos again. By October there were enough for a record and he consulted an old high school friend to help record them properly. Due to the mood he felt at the time, the record was extremely melancholy. The songs went from simple moronic complaints, through to outright confessions of suicidal nightmares. The album, entitled "Childhooded", was a reference to having to move back home again and feeling stuck. It was probably the darkest record he would ever write. 

After it's self-release in November of 2005, John left for Australia in the hope of finding a place to call home. A year later after living in Australia for the best part of that year then backpacking through China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and Malaysia he was back at the parents ranch again. Instead of writing the follow-up to Childhooded, he left for America in May of 2007 to work as a camp counselor at a Summer Camp about an hour from Portland in Maine. He met a nice young lady and they ended up getting married. 

Fast forward to 2012, after surviving the harsh permeating realities of an anxiety-ridden city life in Boston and then Philadelphia (kid's a proud country boy through and through), he finally relocated to Portland, Maine. 

In the three years past, due to work commitments creating a life-crippling schedule (for not much money), the artistic creation has been in snippets. From playing music with several others around a 60's vibe of The Kinks, Badfinger and The Beatle in a group called the Lost Sonnets, he is still working towards getting out the sophomore solo record in the shadows, only now..it's ten years later and then some....

New solo record coming in February 2019, entitled "Short Moves".
