DE: Der Trick, den Aikon hier auf der Bühne unseres Oberstübchens aufführt, funktioniert in etwa so: Zuerst spannt er uns auf ein Förderband, dessen Antrieb irgendwo zwischen deepem House und melodiösem Techno zu verorten ist. Darauf lässt er uns an Groove-Andeutungen vorbeigleiten, die wiederum rhythmische Erwartungen aufkommen lassen. Und genau diese Erwartungen erfüllt der Ukrainer dann auch, jedoch auf höchst unerwartete Weise. Noch während wir uns darüber wundern, was genau da gerade mit uns passiert ist, tanzen die Beine schon ein paar Meter weiter und wandern die Hände zwischen den Harmonien davon. Als zweiten Streich knotet uns Aikon an einen minimalistisch-effizient gehaltenen Modulations-Strang namens Makonde. Über federndem Groove schwappen tribalistische Trommeln und Gesänge über die Grenzen unserer Wahrnehmung - vergleichbar mit den Eindrücken, die uns im Halbschlaf aus der Welt da draußen erreichen.

EN: The Trick, which Aikon pulls off on the stage of our conscious mind, works like this: First, he straps us onto a conveyor belt that originates from somewhere deep down between the realms of melodic techno and deep house. He then sends us zipping past shapes and structures, transporting us into a state of expectation. Next, the Ukrainian producer fulfills this expectation – but he does so in the most unexpected way. While we're still baffled and wondering exactly what just happened to us, our feet are already dancing away and our hands continue to explore the aural space between the harmonies. For the second strike on this EP, Aikon merges us into a minimalist string of rhythmic modulation named Makonde. Riding the crests of the buoyant groove we notice tribalistic drums and singing seeping through the gaps of our perception, a little bit like those sensory fragments that reach us behind closed eyelids when we're still halfway asleep.

Premiere "AIKON" - Trick

'Ukrainian producer AIKON joins forces with Germany’s Daniel Rateuke for the superb ‘Moja’ EP on the Stereo MC’s connected label which comes backed with remixes from Dorian Craft and Fake Mood.

AIKON has been making waves with a string of productions appearing on the likes of Exploited Ghetto, Sol Selectas and Disco Halal over the last year, now he comes correct with possibly his strongest release to date, this time in collaboration with Stil vor Talent and Monaberry man, Daniel Rateuke. They team up here for some lovingly detailed, Afro inspired percussive and synth driven dance floor delights, never short of surprises, drive and tension.

The release kicks off with title track ‘Moja’, offering spartan bass and drums with percussive counter rhythms laying the ground work for the pads and chanted vocals to create a tense, agitated atmosphere. It’s a mesmerising and spacious production that’s primed to transport you to another dimension. The second original comes in the form of ‘Mbili’, a six and a half minute electronic workout structured around chanting tribal vocals, chugging bass and a compelling Xylophone melody.
First to remix is French producer Dorian Craft, a regular on labels like Saved, Radiant and Mo’Black. Here he takes ‘Moja’ into hypnotic territory with a mix that marries wonky synths with an entrancing rhythm section to wonderful effect. The package is completed as Russian duo Fake Mood rework ‘Mbili’ into an eclectic and unique sounding piece fuelled by conga loops, electric guitar riffs, and subtle synth motifs.

This is another surefire winner from connected and their ever expanding stable of true talent.'

'Raven', the final of the four tracks and the lead single released alongside a Jonas Rathsman remix, intrigues with chants and empowerment just as much as with its determination and fragility. Falling from the highest heights, Raven lets you rediscover who you are when you hit the ground. Carried by a throbbing four-on- the-floor kick drum and covered in a synth-haze that is hard to resist, you’ll float along, fall and rise with the everlasting wave-like movement of human existence.

Jonas Ratshman's remix of Raven is just as easy to indulge in as the original. With a strong emphasis on offbeat elements and skilfully placed high-end melodic fragments, Ratshman's remix grows into a slightly more dance floor orientated version of the tune. Bright chords and subtly placed vocal crescendo's inviting in forgotten summer feels are complemented by cleverly layered call-response build up's, leading you astray in a maze of your own thoughts whilst dancing the night away. A mellow kick sound that makes you want to move steadily, an early on-set vocal taking you by the hand. This remix is a dreamlike and wistful marriage between pumping low- ends from the techno world and spine-tingling bright pads, driving beats and glistening shimmers of sweet high-end effects. Ratshman has managed to highlight another shade of the original - a co-release that makes for a tempting addition. Raven is demanding. It's like falling out of the sky into deep waters, getting lost and being found, over and over and over.
