This is of my improvised music that I put at the end of a power supply building tutorial video I just published on YouTube titled "Universal Power Plate - A Modular Synthesizer Power Supply Build". The sequence is from a modular synthesizer, the flue solo is a Mellotron M4000D, and the guitar-ish solo is a Yamaha FS1R.

Land Of The Builders

This is a section of the bass line for an upcoming video piece I'm working on. It is a Modcan Touch Sequencer controlling a Modcan Quad EG and Moon Modular 501D Dual VCO, 501M VCO mixer and 506 Modifier (VCF+VCA). Effects pedals used were TC Electronics Flashback delay and Hall Of Fame reverb.

ZimZim demo

Mostly tuned metal percussion instruments in this plus a Moog Sub Phatty synth and a Mellotron Micro. It was a small experiment that kept growing and growing! Variation On Carol Of The Bells

First patch with the new Synth Tech E102 eurorack module. 

Mattson/Division 6 SQ816 sequencer into E102 and E102 outputs to E340, E350, E355 and E440 (all used as audio VCOs) Also used: E580, Peaks, Morpheum, Unify and MME.

A Tacoma WA prog rock band I was in called THEATRE auditioned a budding young singer named Geoff Tate sometime around 1980. I've long wished that it would have worked out with Geoff, but I'm glad for him that it did not and that he became a part of Queensryche! 

Yes, this recording is pretty rough and all of us are guilty of some less than solid playing, but I know that if we would have stuck it out and became polished we would have made stellar and glorious music together!!! :-)

Theatre With Geoff Tate 1980 - Journey From Mariabronn (Kansas cover)

Incomplete sketch of an idea for a possible song or movie/video soundtrack etc.

The synth voice is just one Moon Modular 501D dual VCO. The main outs of the 501D are passed through a Happy Nerding Super Sawtor and then voiced with a couple MOTM-800 EGs and a MOTM-190 dual VCA. The VCA outputs are run through a Modcan 73B dual delay and then out to the main mix. Also the 501D is mixed with a 501M sub mixer, run through a Happy Nerding FM AID and then voiced with a MOTM-800 EG and MOTM-190 VCA before being sent to the main mix.

The drums are from an Alesis DM5 that is being MIDI controlled  by a Moon Modular 569 step sequencer passed through a Moon Modular 552 CV to MIDI module. 

Destination Kill

A question on Muff's forum was raised asking "how much more variation and awesomeness can you get from the FM Aid if you use it with two oscillators instead of just using one oscillator for both carrier and modulator?" This quick demo tries to show just some of the different sounds that can be obtained when using just one, two and even three VCOs. 

Happy Nerding FM AID 123 VCOs

Simple patch featuring a Grove Audio GMS-294a VCF, which is a clone of the legendary Moog 904A. Other modules used:
Synth Tech MOTM 300 VCO, 800 EG and 190 VCA. Also a Modcan 73B dual delay and Strymon BigSky.

E950 Exploration 1

Test of a single word from a Synth Tech E950 module and chords played on a Roland Fantom XR synth through a Modcan 71B vocoder module.

Some quick fun with new E950 Bent VCO eurorack module from Synth Tech! I just got it back after the new software update to expand the low range and to get it to track as close to 1 volt per octave as possible. It all works great! :-) 

E950 Exploration 3

This time the Synth Tech Bent VCO "auditions" for a singing part in a local playhouse musical production. ;-) 

I'm using a Korg microStation keyboard playing one of its sound audition snipets on repeat and passing the MIDI out through a Moon Modular 551 MIDI to CV converter. The CV and gate from the 551 goes to the E950's 1v/Octave and Sync inputs (although the gate is passed through a Rebel Technology Stoicheia which I used to vary the rhythm a bit) The outputs of an E355 dual LFO are connected to the E950's Index and Effect inputs.

Only listen to this if you like the sound of a massive growly noisy creature eating the Earth. This time I'm modulating an E355 LFO with the audio output of the E950. There is often a lot of the E950 audio mixed in with the E355 audio.

There are 4 identical  synth voices each consisting of a Synth Tech MOTM-300 VCO (triangle wave out), MOTM-800 ADSR and MOTM-190 VCA and at the very beginning I start with one voice and incrementally add in the rest.

The synth voices are driven by a Moon Modular 569 sequencer in 4x8 mode and features the new 569LE Quad Lag Expander. 

As the sequence runs I'm transposing it melodically using a Roland A-88 MIDI keyboard through a MOTM-650 MIDI to CV converter and the CV is patched to the 569's transpose input.

About halfway through I mix in the strings which are from a Mellotron M4000D Rack and there is a little Yamaha FS1R in there too and both are controlled from the same A-88 midi keyboard. Once I start playing chords it gets a little tricky to keep the sequence transposed where I want it because I needed to "roll" the chord to make sure the MIDI to CV converter was outputting the root note of the chord.

The effects were all Strymon pedals: BigSky, Timeline and Mobius. Everything was mixed through an Allen & Heath Mixwizard 20S and performed in real time . . . except I botched the very end because I tried to mute the sequenced voices and flubbed it up so I redid it and spliced them together in post.   ;-)

Left over audio from some testing I was doing with the Synth Tech E352 Beta. The E352 is being modulated by an Erica Synths Octasource LFO and the reverb is from a Roland RSP-550.

This was a test patch in response to a question on Muff's Modular forum. ;-)  This patch only uses a Moon 524+524A quad VC LFO and a 554 Octal Clock Divider as well as a 4 channel mixer and then the mixer's output is run through a couple reverb and delay effects.
