Solaristics

'Living A Life...' is a song cycle commissioned to celebrate the 10th anniversary of a partnership. The three-song cycle was born out of excerpts from the Live Journal blog posts by Gemzel Hernandez shortly after his move to the United States. Though the texts are very personal, I feel they tap into shared feelings of questioning and loss. 

'The Boat' is the third of three songs in the cycle.

Living a Life: III. The Boat

In my first year as Resident Artistic Director of the Look + Listen Fesival, one of my duties (aside from curating) was to create an ambient track that would welcome audiences into each of our different performance spaces throughout the series. This became an opportunity for an even deeper collaboration with each of the artists I had the honor to present. Each artist provided one sound sample that would flow into an ambient remix of my making. Now, it serves as a sonic memory of the three day festival. The contributing artists are: Seth Parker Woods, Charlotte Mundy, Angelica Negron, Majel Connery, Loadbang Emsemble, Darius Jones and Amirtha Kidambi, Quince Ensemble, and The Bang Group.

Look + Listen 2019: Ambient Mix

A sonic image of March 15 - May 15, 2020 from my apartment in Brooklyn, NY during On Pause orders as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. 
It combines sounds heard from my window each day and evening from this time period, sounds from a collaboration with choreographer Kelly Bartnik, and my own musical responses.
