In July 2011 I had the great pleasure of performing with the French choir Ensemble pour Boala at a concert in the Mynydd Seion Chapel in Abergele in North Wales. We stayed in a little hut half way up Moelfre Hill which overlooks the coast - it turned out to be a place and time full of strange coincidences.

The Hills of Arran is the title track from my sixth album, released in early 2016.

This is a live version of Rocks and stones, recorded in the delightful St George’s Church, Anstey, Hertfordshire, SG9 0TJ. I wrote the song some years ago for Charly Devarennes, a friend in Collioure. We had taken to going to the beach in the early evening when the tourists had gone home and the light was at its very best, to swim and to talk with friends. One evening Charly emerged from the sea with a particularly attractive pebble and said that the stone he was carrying was powder of the stars – and then added ‘just like us’. From there came the song, in which I tried to capture a little of the philosophy of this remarkable man.

Never Enough

It's ten years since a million and a half people marched through London against the invasion of Iraq. Here's a demo of a song I wrote after one too many people had told me that it was a futile gesture. I have no plans to release the song properly, but here it is as a tribute to all the people who stood in the cold that day.

This is an early recording of The Clarendon Road, with Lester Lloyd-Reason on guitar and Ian Turner on drums. Lester and I recorded vocals and guitars live and Ian added the drums. All recorded in Ian's studio in Ely. The final version of the song appeared on 'When the music ends', released in 2010, but this version has its own strengths, especially Lester's lead guitar.

This is a recording of a nightingale singing in Paxton Pits near St Neots on May 26th 2013 (with regular trains on the East Coast mainline in the background!). Towards the end a second nightingale joins in for a duet.
