Last November when hot sweaty clubs were a thing, I played along side @BookaShade at London's E1. Their album Movements, released on Get Physical back in 2006 was/still is genius and something I return to regularly for inspiration, so to share a night with them was special.

We had an amusing pre gig dinner - It was great to have a moment to actually sit down, talk and get to know the guys a little. A few weeks later Arno kindly asked if I’d be interested in remixing ‘Polar Lights’ from their new album. I’ve discussed my approach to remixing before, one of the main points being I don’t jump on them lightly however, their track was ripe for reworking - first off it wasn’t already a dance track with a 4/4 groove - it was more of a down tempo vibe and most important, due to the great performance of @joplynberlin I could hear the vocal working a treat.

2019 was winding down and we were approaching our first Christmas with Huxley so decided to wait till the new year to start work on the mix so i could give it my full attention, so ended up starting in early February after arriving in Ibiza… then old Covid-19 decided to rocked up! What then unfolded was a month tucked up away at the top of the valley, diving in and out of the project, experimenting with the original parts of the song i'd been given, searching for the little moments that would then become the final piece. There were a couple times when I needed a proper environment to get to grips with the sonics of the mix. This meant a few covert missions to a studio near by - if caught by the Ibizan police it wouldn’t have gone down well... anyhow… we got there in the end and really happy that its out now in the ether.

The lead track “Hydra” immediately transports into Rodriguez Jr.’s alternate universe of swelling synths and distinctive melodies that stay in your psyche for a very long time. As with most of Olivier’s tracks, it can be enjoyed as much inside headphones for a needed escape, as in a club, or at sunrise on a Brittany mountain, where he showcased the track for the first time in his recent live stream with BOLDR. The key changes and evolving soundscape delight within any space and at every level, in a sound that is pure Rodriguez Jr., which will delight long-time fans and new alike.

Finishing the EP, “Pegasus” sets its signature with a piano trill, thrilling fans who well know Rodriguez Jr’s relationship with this instrument. Crafted in his Paris studio, rhythmic synthesisers, ethereal pads and a tender bassline join the soundscape to create the setting for a tantalising melody to take the heart strings of the listener on a special journey which is, at 7 minutes, entirely too short.

Following on from his collaboration with Eric Horstmann´s Immersive Lab and Dolby Atmos for “Blisss”, “Hydra EP” has also been re-mastered for a multi-dimensional experience. Dolby Atmos technology expands on existing surround sound sound systems by adding height channels, allowing sounds to be interpreted as three-dimensional objects. Italian duo Armonica has been a project we've discovered a long time ago, so working with the full release with guys is our pleasure and honour.
Their significant productions with Connected Frontline, Stil Vor Talent and Multinotes, as well as the recent remix, done with MoBlack for the legend of afro-beat Fela Kuti, released with Defected, have become the main reasons to love guys' sound.
The main title 'Slave' is powerful and effective banger edging between the melodic influence of laidback Indie Dance vibes and the acid sounds.
We are happy to have Dutch producer Patrice Baumel taking his hands on the remix of 'Slave': going more underground with powerful low-ends work, catchy melodies and the enveloping breakdown, Patrice's version is the undoubted proper floor-worker.
The third 'Ratio' has a profound ground: major synth spots and the melodic elements are unified into the properly performed track.
