Pig&Dan possess one of the finest pedigrees in techno and are faithful contributors to Drumcode, dropping their most recent EP – the excellent ‘Infinity’ – in February. ‘Promised’ marks their maiden release on DC’s little brother imprint and has a heart-breaking story behind its creation as Dan explains: "whilst enfolded in sadness we started to write a record dedicated to the loss of my son due to a terrible road accident. The vocal says it all ‘you promised you would live forever’ symbolising that your child will usually outlive you as the parent.”

The track’s lilting organ line makes a haunting accompaniment to the vocal, while tender synths and deep grooves ensure it’s a beautiful, timeless tribute. Egypt’s Raxon, who first debuted on Truesoul in 2017 with the ‘Heliopolis’ EP, delivers a tougher peak-time rework.

From isolation with love… Solique return to build on their incredible debut release on MoBlack earlier this year with ‘Aurora’. Three tracks in weight, landing our way via Istanbul’s Isolate, it’s the duo’s most comprehensive release to date and reveals even more sides to their deep, driving noir sound.

‘Aurora’ sets the scene with its ploughing kick drums and trippy stretch of a sound. Minimal in spirit, meaty in momentum, it’s the sound of a duo who honed their sound and stripes as DJs before they hit the studio. ‘Balanced’ continues the theme with processed percussion ricocheting back and forth as rising chords gently float up behind and ignite a massive arpeggio for the ultimate crescendo. Finally ‘War Of Drums’ brings the EP to an epic conclusion with some of the most dramatic musicality the Cologne-based Austrian / Swedish duo have shown to date. Moving through phases from fantastical to furious, there’s a tension in this that will get hairs standing on every back of every neck in a 20 mile radius. Absolute killer material.

Six months into their first year as recording artists and they’re making waves not even a global lockdown can quash… We’re looking forward to seeing what comes next from Solique

Latest DHB release 'Broken Mind' EP by Jickow - which describes himself as a 'lover of melodies, sound, rhythm, but above all a lover of the emotions that music provides' - is classically chimerical.

The opening track 'Can't Get You Off My Mind (Original Mix)' is visionary and expansive with reverberating keys echoing in the far off distance with dense, warm pads and synths laying a framework that is cemented by the driving percussion. Within a little over 6 minutes the EP already displays vast ranges of the 'emotion that music provides'.

The following track 'Space Of Broken Heart (Original Mix)' begins rather ambient and ominous and then unfolds to altering synths that ring as space-age alarms. Every inch of this track is permeating with a thick resonating bass that sounds like the steady hum of some enormous terrestrial electronic instrument. Halfway through the machine is rewired with blurps of synths pinging in sporadically only to have the instrument kick back in and continue its otherworldly groove.

Jickow creates a soundscape that is futuristic and emotive and an EP that amplifies each element perfectly.
