Classic Trance: Anthems

The concept allows guest DJs to express a personalised, diverse interpretation of trance music you’d hear both at the start and at the end of a night out at your favourite event. It also challenges me to select tracks which continue the flow of the set seamlessly and to tell a story, with the end goal of taking listeners….on a Journey.

A little bit about me.... 
I first started djing in the early 00's when my clubbing journey started. I spent a good few years away from the decks before refinding my love of it in the last couple of years. Most of my classics mixes are influenced from my clubbing days in Gatecrasher & Godskitchen. 003 sees Dublin man Rob take control of the guest mixes. 
Rob is a multi-genre DJ based in Dublin, Ireland. He used the covid lockdown period to finally take the plunge and invest in  some DJ gear. Alongside Classic Trance he also regularly mixes Progressive and Techno.

004 sees DJ Aries take to the decks. A former clubgoer originally hailing from Leicester,  he frequented Superclubs such as Passion at The Emporium in Coalville and Godskitchen at CODE in Birmingham between 1998 - 2005. 

An amateur trance DJ in that time period utilising vinyl and CD's, DJ Aries played at various venues in the Midlands, until the mid 2000's. Now in his 50's, his love of trance music has never wained.

Since recently going full digital, he is now once again "spinning" some of his favourite tunes from a genre that took the world by storm.

We're up to 005 with the series. The guest this time is none other than Eddie Swales. Eddie Swales' passion is trance music. 2 years ago he took the plunge and took a keen interest in DJing. Eddie quickly realised from his impressive reach with his mixes and radio shows that he had discovered a raw talent and an outlet for his love for all things trance. With a substantial back catalogue of classics influenced from the Gatecrasher era of the late 90s and early 2000s, his style continues to evolve and incorporates tech trance and tracks from the modern day trance. With his sights set on entering the realms of production in the future, Eddie continues to express his love for our favourite genre via as many avenues as possible.

Luke first discovered Trance back in the year 2000 after hearing music from a Dutch DJ named Tiësto.
This led to Luke diving head first into the genre and started to follow Tiësto around Europe to as many shows as possible but also starting to DJ himself. Purchasing his first set of turntables & collecting vinyl records that Tiësto would play in his playlists.
Whilst doing this Luke would go on to enjoying dj’ing for many years himself & was fortunate enough to play along side and warm up for artists such as Lange, Axwell, Funkagenda, Mark Knight, Tommy Trash, Third Party, Thomas Gold, Sidney Samson, and the late great Avicii.
In the last few years Luke has returned to playing trance, digging into his huge collection of Tiësto playlisted vinyl records & regularly shares vinyl mixes on soundcloud.

Growing up in The Burn and being a stone throw from the epicentre of the rave scene I developed a love of the 4/4 beat and dance music. 

From the 90's to the noughties I clubbed all over the UK and of course Ibiza.. I firmly believe I've witnessed the best of clubbing and dj performances. 

I enjoy experimentive mixing and harmonising tracks to bring out the best elements.. influences in trance and tech trance are  early Armin Van Buuren, Matt Hardwick, Marco V and Mauro Picotto.

Chronicles of Trance is a six-hour odyssey spanning across 25 Acts, which feature a grand total of 164 tracks. 

Inspired by mixes such as Oleg Mosins (aka Black Plasma) “Transcendence - A History of Trance”,  and albums such as Joris Voorns “Balance 014” and "Global Underground 043" and of course Armin van Buurens end of year A State of Trance episodes, this mix provides my interpretation of a set that relies on the application of inventive blends. 

Utilising intricate transitions, innovative layering and harmonic mixing to produce a cohesive sonic journey, this mix makes full use of the sync button, with up to 4 decks playing at any given time and utilisation of loops, snippets, acapellas and on the fly edits using cue points. 

It was a challenge and pushed my boundaries as an artist but was also an absolute pleasure to record. The mix aims to capture the essence of trance and progressive tracks from the golden era in its most expansive form.

If I'm honest, I surprised myself by how little planning went into the mix and by how much of it was a result of on the fly selections. Much more than just a selection of bootlegs, (admittedly something I’ve never been a big fan of), I’ve tried to ensure that each track and transition plays its own part and represents itself whilst adding to the holistic journey and direction of the mix.
