it definitely shouldn't be perfect, if it was perfect then we might not want to move away from perfection. 
Expression, expression of how you feel, perspective, convey that with whatever means available to you. 
If you paint black, does that mean your heart is full of sadness? It could be that just a part of you is. Or maybe black means silence & that's what you perceive as beautiful.
Or maybe sadness is beautiful, because it made you walk past the edge, made you go where you thought you'd never go and come back from.
And now you understand there's no coming back, only moving on down the river. Evolving into what is anew, hand in hand with the breath of life.

Art is what makes us move, it is science and nature, we are the tiny living products of Art.
