This mix was created when Damian and Martin joined forces in a rare musically alternative back to back session when they met up in Tulum  after having played The Day of Dead in different cities around Mexico. 

We hope you enjoy the first 90 minutes of this session as we count down the days until these two forces of nature collide again for DAY ZERO at the magical pyramid site Chanolandia outside Playa Del Carmen on the 11th of January 2014

A Mellow Trip thru the Desert

This was the first ever sunrise set at DISTRIKT and our first visit to DISTRIKT.
Together with everybody who was present, we had a musical flight that took off in pitch black darkness and soared into the rising orange sun. It was a unique experience and certainly one we’ll never forget. Thank you for dancing and sharing this moment together!

A deep, stripped-down minimal techno atmosphere with dry Berlin-warehouse character, muted analog kicks, tight hi-hats and glassy pads drifting through metallic shimmer.
Granular dust textures and a warm sub-hum move close to the skin, creating intimate tension.
The groove lives in negative space, shaped by the power of what stays unspoken.

Half through the night (of what we considered our best night at Burning Man)... Atish takes over the decks with his expressive melodic deep house that sings to the soul while moving the dance floor, communicating the joy of love, the depths of darkness, and intensity of a spiritual dance music journey for himself and our guests.

//What do you love about Yamba?
Oh, there is a lot I love for it. I love the family spirit that’s behind it, its design, the quality of the food and the drinks and its musical orientation. Musically I am more the timeless side myself and I like it when people the guts to not run chasing every trend.

//What was your idea when your played this set at Yamba. recently?
Obviously there was no dancing allowed, so I played a lounger set that was supposed to simply create the perfect ethereal and floating soundscape for the beautiful day at the beach. I knew that Disco and soulfulness are strong elements of the music choice usually and that’s what I’m coming from so wherever it’s welcome I play a set like this. 

//What’s your ritual before a gig?
If you wanna call it a ritual. I always do the following: whenever I come into a venue, a room, I try to feel it. Sometimes that takes only a few minutes, sometimes more. I am trying to intuitively feel into what this room needs to take off. Sometimes this can mean to reset a room at 10bpm lower from the first records to slowly rise the energy again, sometimes it’s continuing exactly there where it is at this very moment and transforming it later. I am also feeling into the question if the room is ready at all for these types of stories I like to tell and sometimes, not often, the answer is a no. And then I just play a set that’s more on the functional side because in the end it’s my job to make the people dance.
