Last night I dreamt of a hotel room by the ocean, saltwater was coming in beneath the windows. Did you know that most cells in the human body replace themselves every 7 to 10 years? This idea is in fact somehow inaccurate, even though beautiful in its own naive, poetical ingenuity. I've pinpointed my oldest olfactory memory down to saline skin and the scent of nasturtiums in a midsummer heatwave.

On the winding roads of escape, running away from the burning city's suffocation, in search of air, Cecilia drowns in the thick, elemental romance of Sexilia island.

The landscape oozes and recalls the radical desire of adolescent souls, a chaste and mystical resistance which flutters and strolls above through ditches, railroad edges, highway exits, stinking alleys owned by starving cats.

Sparse and sculptural breaths, the songs are drunk with melancholic infatuation.

“Summer in Sexilia” is a sensory encounter with the great despair in which the lover's courage takes shape once again, sublime, hanging on the memory of the shining stars.

In the hallucinated Summer of Sexilia, the ground trembles, the hands get dirty and the world craves for real tenderness and silent ecstasy.

Pan Daijing announces her debut album, ‘Lack 惊蛰’, on PAN this July.

Culminating as the purgative ‘finale’ to her improvisational live performances, Pan Daijing’s debut album also offers an insight to her future works. The process was intuitive and raw, born out of her previous explorations. Over the past 2 years, she has composed, recorded and edited different concerts and field recordings across Europe, China, and Canada, forming the basis of the record. Arriving as her first full-length album, ‘Lack 惊蛰’ was crafted from this long, painstaking mental and physical practice.

Daijing’s pieces are created around a very intense and intimate mental catharsis, often expressed through a close physical interaction with strangers in her live sets which seek to engage them in a highly personal way. “When I was finalising this album, they didn’t feel like tracks to me anymore, but more like a psychoanalytical process,” she says. “I saw myself being this absurd, mad person ‘acting’ out the sounds… It’s rather physical, and became like a mindgame. All things came out naturally as part of me.”

The narrative of the album presents a perspective of the world as ‘the theatre of our minds’ - where Daijing sees the record as an ‘opera piece’ in its storytelling and drama.

The release is mastered by Rashad Becker at D&M, featuring photography by Ralf Marsault, and artwork by Bill Kouligas.

Lack 惊蛰

Pan Daijing - Plate of Order 秩序之灾 (PAN 79)

Broshuda’s infamous social vocabulary is filled with obscure terminology and coded cross references to the likes of “Ambient Punk”, “Glambient" and “Aquatic Romanticism”. These might come as bizarre attempts to define his peculiar and hard to pin down style of electronic music, while simultaneously mocking the need to market music through highfaluting press and academia- approved labels. This same skewed ambiguity informs much of the berlin-based producer’s creative attitude and the rest of his output, for his first release for Haunter Records generating pieces of apparent simplicity that gradually unravel to engage in complex emotional vignettes, drawing from a limited pool of sound sources while paying a great deal of attention to detail in the construction of sound and temporal structure. Subtly tweaking and rearranging the focus, he emphasizes the background’s definition while meditating on blurring and masquerading what should have been foreground into new forms and shapes, evoking a world of hallucinatory sonical flora steadily in flux, descending and ascending through thick layers of shifting motions and memories, touching upon multitude of non-places along the way. An array of tools and techniques on display akin to those of classic dub, contemporary sound design on obscure and random equipment and post-rave power ambient poems, coalescing with a pronounced melodic element, giving the release a profoundly introspective and earthy character.

Recording and sampling are used to recognize and construct patterns from the mass of sonic material and associations present not only in the web’s archives, feeds, and stacks but in memory and personal history. 

Archive Poem was originally intended to be sourced entirely from digital fragments and ephemera found on the Internet Archive. During the development, material from a wide range of sources including social media, voice memos, field recordings, and midi composition has been added. At its core, the piece is an attempt to consciously digest the sonic material of the personal digital life. 

Midwestern sacred music is built from recordings of Catholic masses and contemporary Catholic hymns found primarily through YouTube. Its structure loosely mimics the form of Catholic liturgy. The piece is meant to act as both a critique of contemporary religious spaces and an attempt to transform the sonic material of these spaces into something genuinely personal and meditative.
