Dark Matter is back on Strobe, this time with a double hitter! For the lead track, he's joined by Erika K for their collab called 'When Souls Collide'. It's an emotive Power trancer, with heavy stab blasts and driving bass from the off. The power gives way to a delicate string sequence in the breakdown, followed by an emotive arp melody that lifts the track to the drop. On the flip-side, Dark Matter goes solo with 'What It Used To Be', a more underground, moody track which gives a nod back to what trance used to be about; a deeper darker trip. Multi bass layers bubble below tight and atmospheric percussion, entwined with haunting synth lines and there are hints of Goa trance. The breakdown introduces an eerie vocal and pads from which arps rise. After the drop, the track builds and builds culminating in an explosion of bright synth lines. 2 very different tracks showing the diversity of our genre.

With his performance at EDC Vegas still dominating #TheNineSkies rearview, Markus Schulz expands the program with two new adaptions of ‘Mota-Mota’. Talla 2XLC and Arkham Knights are the artists charged with taking Dakota & Koen Groeneveld’s techno leviathan further down the bunny hole.    
Extra crunch to the percussion, added impetus to her tempo, greater stalk to the bass and even more menacing murk to its mainline! Who dares twist ‘Mota-Mota’ into something even moodier, dirtier and more industrial?! That be those Arkham Knights brothers, whose Reconstruction revision checks all the above boxes… and breaks a few rules into the bargain. 

In their 9/10 review, ‘2 techno 4 U?’ was the question DJ Mag leveled at ‘Mota-Mota’s “dense, delicious dance macabre” original. If that resonates, then Talla 2XLC’s redesign should tip the scales for you. With his mix, the German quartermaster instinctively pivots the track onto trance ground. That said, we’re still talking ‘Mota-Mota’, so don’t be expecting angels, rainbows or whatnot! Driven by riding hi-hats and hard claps, Talla quickens both pace and pulse, drawing out its drop, adding reverb emphasis to its FX, and just before its midnight arrives, allowing a judicious shaft or two of melody to break through.   Two new mixes, neither to be taken lightly. Chose your weapon.
