Q-Bik Mūz (pronounced “Cubic Muse”) emerges as a trailblazer from Detroit’s legendary third wave of electronic dance music, blending raw creativity with a boundary-pushing ethos. By day, John Penn was a medical student, but by night, his Penn Point Productions basement studio became an incubator for Detroit’s innovative sound. Collaborating with icons like Carl Craig, Bridgett Grace ("True Faith"), and Kenny Larkin, Q-Bik Mūz’s kinetic compositions bridged techno, hip-hop, and trance.

The debut release, "Kinetic Motion", propelled Q-Bik into Detroit’s techno lore when Kenny Larkin introduced it on Alan Oldham’s influential Fast Forward radio show. The track caught the attention of techno pioneers like Juan Atkins and "Mad" Mike Banks, leading to the seminal release of "Hip-No Tek", a record that sold over 10,000 copies worldwide on Undercurrent Records, cementing its status in Detroit’s electronic canon.

Subsequent tracks like "Can U Feel It?", featuring diva Bridgett Grace, dominated dance charts, while Penn’s foresight brought R&B into the fold, producing the chart-topping "Something’s Goin’ On" for U.N.V., a Billboard #1 single and Top 10 album that defined an era of Detroit R&B. 

Expanding his vision, Penn signed and produced rising adult contemporary artist KEM under Undercurrent Records, helping define KEM’s distinct sound. The EP "Can Figure U Out" introduced audiences to the smooth sophistication of the seminal AC jazz hit "Love Thy Neighbor", released as Undercurrent’s fifth offering. This collaboration laid the foundation for KEM’s ascent as a mainstay in the R&B and jazz worlds, eventually earning him widespread acclaim and a deal with Motown/Universal, with KEM's first album "Kemistry".

Transitioning from music production to technology, Penn transformed Undercurrent Records into an XR laboratory, revitalizing Q-Bik Mūz’s catalog with remixes and futuristic releases. Rooted in Detroit’s underground yet reaching global audiences, Q-Bik Mūz is more than a producer—he’s a storyteller, sound architect, and innovator, fusing electronic artistry with cutting-edge technology.
