Traveling a dark, cold road, I needed somewhere warm
Forlorn, wet and cold, I needed shelter from the storm
A chill was setting in, but that’s the cost
When I spied a tavern, as I was feeling lost

I smelt the fire burning, my thoughts turned to being fed
A nice, little cozy pub, and a chance of a bed
So filled with warm desire, as I spluttered and I coughed
I checked my pockets for money, and I was off

The way I saw it, I had all my problems solved
In one fell swoop, I had all my sins absolved
Stopped at the entrance, pushed open the wooden door
They all stared at me, as my eyes fell to the floor

I ordered myself a room, followed by their fare
Got myself a pint, and a whisky while you’re there
The place felt so familiar, just like the last
But there was a nagging feeling, like something from my past

Downed my last ale, cheers for old times sake
Then I headed to my room, to wait for the dawn to break
Now the years have passed, the place I cannot find
It’s like it disappeared, swallowed up in my mind
