"Necessity" is a soul-stirring collaboration featuring the smooth and gritty poetry of Maeki Maii and the intricate guitar work of Dave Featherstone. I'm not sure what it looks like in the rest of the United States but in the Northeast here all of our trees and plants that are usually vibrant green this time of year are faded and washed out looking, like they aren't getting nearly enough sunlight.  If you've been paying attention for the past year or two the government and media have been laying the groundwork to put the blame on climate change but those of us that use more of our brains than most others know what's really going on. If you don't know and you think those of us that do are crazy conspiracy nuts then look in the mirror and you will see the real problem.  And remember,  yesterday's conspiracies are today's realities.

Have not been playing the guitar for more than couple of hours the past 4 months - too many reasons to open up here, but this one came through as a force of nature a few days ago.

Explanation: Why is there a huge eye in the sky? Diamond dust. That is an informal term for small ice crystals that form in the air and flitter to the ground. Because these crystals are geometrically shaped, they can together reflect light from the Sun or Moon to your eyes in a systematic way, causing huge halos and unusual arcs to appear. And sometimes, together the result can seem like a giant eye looking right back at you. In the featured image taken in the Ore Mountains of the Czech Republic last week, a bright Moon rising through ice fog-filled air resulted in many of these magnificent sky illusions to be visible simultaneously. Besides Moon dogs, tangent arcs, halos, and what's called a 'a parselenic circle', light pillars above distant lights are visible on the far left, while Jupiter and Mars can be found just inside the bottom of the 22-degree halo. "

The original idea for the That Was Then album was to open on a track with the same riff as the closer but at half time.... this is broadly what that song was going to be, apart from the lyrics - so it's a bit of a curio without a home, now that I went with a different opening song. The 'sister song' is This Is Now.

Johnson is a lo-fi indie guitarist and singer-songwriter from the North East of England, known for his atmospheric soundscapes and intimate melodies. Supported by ABUS MUSIC, he records under various guises, including Johnson, Johnson and The Phantom Ramms, and Abus Soundscapes, which can all be found on Soundcloud.

His latest project, Within, Without (2024), offers brand-new tracks that explore themes of introspection, blending raw lo-fi textures with hauntingly melodic elements. 

Past collaborations include The Middle Of Life with UK singer songwriter  Brian Peters  and Brazilian artist John Alberto Moraes. The latter collaboration  resulting in  releases such as The Departures EP.

Johnson's previous EP, Singing to Rooks (2016), is available on Bandcamp and continues to resonate with fans of indie and lo-fi guitar music. The EP  can also be found on YouTube and other music platforms like Spotify and Amazon Muisc. 

Chosen as Soundclouder of the Day, his  “smooth, complex, and melodic,” Johnson’s instrumental work on Crossing the River' highlights his intricate guitar style.
