<p>The legendary Tony Rohr graces Phobiq with his presence and offers two tracks alongside his new partner-in-crime Layton Giordani.<br />
 The EP starts out with the sparse arrangement of &#8220;Careless Suggestions&#8221;, driven by a locomotive bassline and grinding rhythm section. Moody stabs reinforce the bleak vibe, and the vocals coming at us from otherworldly black holes only add to the mood. Label boss Sasha Carassi steps up for the remix in his trademarked stomping style, making use of hypnotic elements and the busy claps from the original. Industrial-sounding hi-hat action drives his interpretation all the way home, after an apocalyptic breakdown, of course.<br />
 On &#8220;Reggae Shiz&#8221; things are more stripped-down with bare drums holding everything together, as the rest of the arsenal slowly builds around menacing chords and a rocksteady groove. Behind the spotlight, liquid bass comes together with quirky percussion to complete this almost-10-minute-long opus. Dema maintains a sublime, shadowy mood in his version but opts for busier hats and heavier usage of chords.</p>

DJ Ralf is the Italian icon who runs the much loved Laterra Recordings label and management, and is now back with ‘Er Suonone’, a new track from Margot that is all set to be a late summer smash.

Anyone who has heard the legendary DJ Ralf (a cult figure who has been the subject of a documentary, has played all over the world, runs his own legendary Bella Ciao party and holds a cult residency in Cocorico) play recently will most likely have heard this track in his set, and it has been an unknown but much loved secret weapon for a while now.

As such this one sided vinyl pressing will please many people who have been hunting it down. Margot, of course, is an Italian pair of accomplished producers who have released on, Les Disques de la Mort, Hell Yeah and Border Community and run their own Margot label.

‘Er Suonone’ is a pumping, deep, slow burning bit of cosmic house that builds and builds and teasers listens without ever releasing the pressure. Monstrous kick drums drive it down below, pixelated stabs add suspense in the distance and icy hi hats slither in the foreground. It’s the sort of track to drop right at the peak time and it will surely go right off, with people fist pumping along to the groove.

Cristoph’s first offering to Truesoul comes in the shape of a two track, tech house delight. Lead track ‘Genesis’ holds a pounding bass line and distorted vocals. The slow but steady build up, alongside the deep synth stabs, creates an intensive groove. ‘Exodus’ comes packed with atmospheric vocals and funky percussion. The two tracks together create an emotive and fast paced release – one not to be missed.

After making the choice to jump ship from trance, Claudia Cazacu is on the brink of a new round of world renown among the techno crowd. The Romanian-based stalwart has been earning her stripes since first emerging in the early noughties, and now she’s making the transition over to more discerning dancefloors. She’s running with the right circles to make a smooth transition, having landed a scorching new original on the estimable underground label Gate Null. “Infinnity” is a top-gear number with a dank warehouse undercarriage that’ll carry it into plenty of late-night runs.

We have a premiere from the 'Viscera' EP and 'Vena Cava' is another DJ favourite. It's just been included in Jackmaster's upcoming DJ Kicks mix and it's a real gem.

It's deep, brooding and features a gnarly set of stabbing piano chords. The riffs are warped and the horns are super menacing making this perfect if you want a DJ tool that packs something completely different. Expect to hear this a lot this summer.

Adam Beyer’s Drumcode juggernaut attracts more fans and critical plaudits with each passing year. Holding firm on its future facing ethos, techno’s number one label presents a new volume in its acclaimed A-Sides series with 20 prime tracks to signify its 20th anniversary. 

Such is the volume of quality music Adam Beyer receives throughout the course of the year, releasing all of it would be impossible. Enter the blue chip A-Sides series: a chance for the quality-obsessive label head to issue a collection of outstanding tracks that couldn’t fit in their regular EP release schedule. 

With an eye on future talent, as much as the label’s established roster of heavy-hitters, the compilation showcases the full breadth of Drumcode’s multifaceted techno sound, equal parts inspiring and functional. 

Led by the stealth techno funk of ‘Nine of You’, Beyer’s deft collaboration with Mark Reeve, the compilation takes in exciting highlights from big guns such as Alan Fitzpatrick, Dustin Zahn, Bart Skils, Pleasurekraft, Luca Agnelli, Jay Lumen, Kaiserdisco and Gary Beck. 

The rich vein of form displayed by emerging techno talent is similarly given prime position. Rising DJ/producer Boxia makes his Drumcode debut, fresh from a well-received warm up set for the crew at the hugely successful Junction 2 festival in London, while the likes of Enrico Sangiuliano, Juan Sanchez, Ian O’Donovan and Timmo also drop fire, establishing their credentials as some of the most promising talent breaking through the ranks in 2016. 

Reinforcing the global scope of the label, artists such as The Junkies from Toronto and Layton Giordani from New York, prove techno is winning a place in the heart of the new generation of artists coming out of North America.

The heavy hitting four track EP shines a light on Sangiuliano’s tight, thundering production skills. The hoover heavy lead track ‘Moon Rocks’ is packed with booming percussion, intricate synths and brooding crescendos. The EP encapsulates Sangiuliano’s wide spectrum of sounds ranging from the fat bass line of ‘Moon Rocks’ to the more delicate harmonies shown within the ‘Dutch Kiss’ mixes whilst ‘Ghettoblaster’ sits somewhere in between.

The next instalment on Afterlife comes from Vaal with remixes by Locked Groove and Baikal. ’Wander To Hell’ is a three track EP, with three versions of the same track that each encapsulate the spirit of Afterlife in their own individual way.

Heralding from a rock n’roll and jazz background Vaal is unperturbed by the strict rules that define & guard electronic music. ‘Wander To Hell’ is stripped back and gentle, highlighting the emotive side of the label. The combination of alluring vocals and beautiful reverberating chords along with the ebb and flow of distortion makes it a composition that grips the listener from start to finish.
Belgian talent Locked Groove seeks the dancefloor with his remix. He brings back a little familiarity, the vocal remains, but is now present amongst an assortment of synths and percussion, pushing through to darker, heavier depths.
Baikal makes multi layered electronic music simultaneously for the heart, mind and feet. His version of ‘Wander To Hell’ is truly spellbinding, featuring a hypnotic groove that glides seamlessly through a continuum of time and space.

Released to critical acclaim in April 2016, Verve and his "Foundations" EP illustrated precisely why the Australian producer has garnered so much recent respect. As the original Proton Music release now sees a remix edition on Particles, "Sweeps" receives two new treatments from Israeli and UK talents.

Igal Magitman is an artist with a storied background that covers over a decade of music production talent. Another artist to come out of the fertile Israeli hotbed that includes Guy J, Khen and Guy Mantzur, Magitman has stood alongside industry giants and played a significant part in his country's music scene. A DJ schedule that has seen him tour across his homeland, has seen his passport stamped at global spots across China, Europe and South America. The Magitman production portfolio is no less impressive with over 250 credits finding their way to some of the finest modern imprints after a 2006 debut for Twisted Frequency with early collaborator, Brisker. Since then, Tribal Vision, Plusquam and Toolroom have all played a part in the Magitman story as his music became licensed to Sony Playstation and hit the Beatport charts on a regular basis. A frequent contributor to Proton Music with such classics as "Training Day" and "Wet" plus remixes of Moonbeam and Silinder, a pair of Particles rerubs for Mobilize and Scotty.A in 2012 and 2013 are now complemented by a third.

Playing tribute to Verve's underlying rhythmic groove, additional percussive elements are intricately layered before the familiar bass line is represented with intelligent key change. Refrains from the original are represented in an emotive, spine-tingling breakdown before rhythm and groove take over once more in the third movement to strong dance floor effect.

Derby based producer, David R Maddocks, from the UK's East Midlands, is an artist with a rich and varied production portfolio since a tech house debut for Kroton Sound Recordings in March 2015. Since then, over a century of production credits have been accrued for the likes of Baroque, 238W, BC2 and Hydrogen. Indeed, it was for the latter that the successful "Skeletons" EP was released at the back end of 2016. An appearance on Proton Radio's "Featured Artist" slot in May 2016 enhanced a reputation with a set of original and carefully curated tracks as Maddocks' career continues to go from strength to strength.

Debuting on Particles, the David R Maddocks remix of "Sweeps" is thus an impressive affair that cleverly pays attention to the familiar melodic themes present in Verve's original, underlined by strong kick and white-noise washes. A cleverly stepped arpeggio sequence, based on the "Sweeps" original, starts and stutters its path across stripped back breakdown before pairing in effortless fashion to the rhythmic casing. Evolving across the seven-and-a-half minutes, counterpoint melodic refrains from the original make their presence felt with intermittent laser-edged analogue effects in a dynamic and intriguing rework.

Remixes from Magitman and David R Maddocks have ensured that Verve "Sweeps" to victory one again through his inspiring production work.
