The long awaited follow-up to a killer four-tracker from Dublin native Fio Fa and Naïve label head Violet, Holly Lester’s Duality Trax readies it’s subsequent release; this time courtesy of Zagreb born, LA based producer Cromie and a remix from one of electronic music’s most exciting artists – rRoxymore.

Cromie explores a pool of moods and aesthetics throughout the labels latest outing; twisting and bending the standard house template into a string of exciting new shapes and sounds. Title track Landbridge is a brooding cut of peak-time energy; original, bold and brimming with colour. Bloom In shines a stronger spotlight on Cromie’s eye for oddball rhythms – with a series of left-field leaning synths, hypnotising grooves and deep, rumbling bass. River then channels us through a tranquil, break-scattered dreamscape as the current gently sails us home. 

 rRoxymore incorporates the dynamics of Cromie’s original - Bloom In, while allowing her own unique perspective to shine. The Berlin based producers refreshing take on the fringes between house and techno are as perceptible as ever, floating effortlessly between genres, exploring new possibilities and sounds. Organic drums act as the centerpiece, loaded with detail, balanced by the artist's ineffable bleeps and bass. Cromie’s once recognizable stabs breathe new life during the tracks second half - abruptly moving throughout its interior, leaving listeners with a lasting impression long after its conclusion.

Hailing from the city of Dublin it's Fio Fa who is responsible for Pear's next release, his altogether third on the label after two EPs in 2018 respectively 2019. The three tracker U Drink, U Pay seemingly covers proggy as well as Garag-y influences and represents the artist potpourri of styles, which Fio skill- and smoothly brings together on the EP. Having made a name for himself in the scene with further productions on Duality Trax, Radiant Love and two EPs on Fungie, both out last year, Fio Fa continues to ride the wave of putting out quality releases. The B1 of his U Drink, U Pay EP, namely Turizmo is a melodic 2-Step take that smoothly paves its way through varied chords, which are enriched with spare spoken and sung vocals and further little elements like ring tones that support the overall smooth vibe of the track. Still playing Turizmo at the right time can surely speed and heat up the atmosphere and floors likewise. With its energetic and – typically for 2-Step tracks – partly broken bass line Turizmo by all means has the ability to win the race.

Valencia's Nacho Marco has an incredibly impressive back catalogue, with releases on brilliant labels including Freerange, Plastic City, Lazy Days, Ovum, We Play House and his own excellent Loudeast imprint too. Now added to the list is the irrepressible Chiwax, with his “The 909 Files" EP. 

Each track is simply titled 'File 1' through to “File 4“, so let's kick things off in the usual order. "File 1“ is a powerhouse of percussion and keys, with an almost Reese-esque bassline rumbling underneath. The weight of the kicks and the metronomic rattle of the rimshots thunders the track along, making this a very impressive opener. 

“File 2" slows the BPM down a few notches, the drums are again super-heavy (being from the 909, as the EP title gives away), but this time the keys take a softer approach, with glorious floating pads underpinning the mellow mood here. A wonderfully woozy closer to the A-side. 

Flipping over for “File 3“ on the B-side, the 909 is joined by our old friend the M1 bassline, with clipped vox parts adding to the energy pulsing through the track. Swinging along in a fashion reminiscent of classics such as  Kerri Chandler et'al, this is a superb straight-up warm house jam. 

Rounding the EP off, “File 4’"is built around a stabby church organ riff which nags away throughout the track, the punchy percussion and tinkling chords coming together in a swirl of joyous depth for the dancefloor. The bassline chugs away with its neat bounce, echoing the thump of the unmistakable 909 kicks, closing the EP off in the style it maintains throughout, namely exquisite dancefloor-driven house music which has a real timeless quality.

It was an alpha compound, a delicate stone which had been discovered beneath the surface of the earth many moons ago. It sparkled and glimmered under the pale light, casting a million perplexing colours out into the line of sight. Onlookers watched as he began to open the casing, there were gasps and exhales as he began to run, clutching the mythical object in one hand and dashing towards the exit. 

Boulderhead is set to release a new EP on Gestalt Records, a killer release described as "four wicked bits of bleep and boost". Who are we to disagree? It bangs.
