Jerome Sydenham, Fatima Njai and Mario Punchard channel Kraftwerk with ‘Trans Afro Express’ on Rekids.

Much of Ibadan label-boss Sydenham’s career has been defined by his infusion of pan-African sounds into electro, house and techno. Teaming up with frequent collaborator Fatima Njai and percussionist Mario Punchard, the Nigerian-born, NY-honed artist continues his mission with a brilliant interpretation of one of Kraftwerk’s most influential tracks, ‘Trans Europe Express’. Evocative of the organic, drum-led and hypnotic grooves that run through Sydenham and Njai’s output, ‘Trans Afro Express’ is a compelling update of a classic.

It has become painfully obvious we are stuck between a giant rock and a hard place. I love my phone. I hate my phone. I put it down, I can’t leave it alone. Amidst our pathetic and self prescribed asphyxiation however, there are brief moments of egress. Moments we surface for air, and catch a glimpse of the world as we once knew it. This song was born from a similar moment. A moment in time when we peeled the future’s wiry fingers off the wheel and began driving again ourselves. Matthew Dear sketched some silly portraits and posted them. Joe Goddard replied and requested one of himself. Matthew accommodated the request and asked Joe to send him a new song to work on. Within hours, thousands of miles away, Joe wrote Love Games and sent it to Matthew. Matthew did what he could, but knew it needed one more musical heart. The triumvirate Love. Eats Everything iced the cake, and plopped a colossal heart shaped cherry on the delectable mess. Now we share our technology laden and dependent confection of love with the world. Jam is an eclectic camaraderie of intelligent virtual Samurai Apes who know how to hold down a baseline.

While Hip hop and Reggae were Jams roots, Sporting influences from funky commercial legends including Jamiroquai, Cassius, Fat Boy Slim, Groove Armada, Gorillaz and Daft Punk were all a big part of the Jam’s life. 

Jam's favourite sets regularly include West Coast style American house/techno including but not exclusive to funky festival sounds from “Desert Hearts records” “Mikey Lion” and “Lee Reynolds” that add that underground festival music style to his sound.
 
Uk influences include Latmun and Darius Syrossian, while elements of Berlin and Amsterdam flavouring his tastes from Icons like "Sidney Charles", “Andhim” and  “Dennis Ferrer” for that warm, fuzzy bouncing deep club sound, or  "Township Rebellion" , "Ben Coda"and "Matador" for darker melodic vibes, you can really never tell what Jam will play until he hits the decks!
