In a world where people are constantly trying to fit-in, it’s refreshing to hear an artist simply do their own thing. Genre-defying, singer-songwriter John V. is doing just that, not out of choice – but because it’s the only thing he knows how to do.
 
With a diverse palate of musical influences spanning from Mahalia Jackson, Nat King Cole, and Donnie Hathaway – to Phil Collins, Smokie Norful and Bill Withers, John V. pieces together a musical tapestry laced with nuances of jazz, r&b, soul, hip-hop and even the belly-fire of rock. It is safe to say that John V.'s music is uniquely different to any artist you might have encountered.
 
Dig deep into John V’s discography and you’ll find a plethora of heartfelt Christian stories. Whether he’s narrating the act of falling in love, describing the bitter pain of being hurt, John V. understands emotion like no other, and his voice merely serves as the vessel to God’s path.
 
John V. is no stranger to music, and has been on his musical journey from the tender age of 4, where he would try and emulate songs he had heard at church. At age 7, he was already a guest soloist for the Music Educator’s Conference – which famously turned quite emotional as John V. blew away the crowd with his unique phrasing, articulation and vocal abilities of such a young singer.
 
John V. released “Getting My Life Back Together” on GJG back in 1999, which received critical acclaim. More recently, he released a single entitled “Very Best Friend”, and keep an ear to the ground as John V. also has an EP (‘Finally Me’) scheduled for release January 2019

John V. is the voice of a man, who sings every note and phrase as if his very life was dependent on the successful delivery of his message. John's voice still resounds as resiliently as it did on his debute album (Jesus I Love You ft. Paulette Clinton)circa 1975 .  His voice now comes from a man who has found his place of worship within himself. If you're just finding him again after his brief appearance in the late 90's you will hear the voice of a soul who's triumphant worship comes born through a time of great pain and tribulation. Clearly when speaking about the gospel of Jesus Christ, his voice is tinged with soul...and reminiscent of R&B. His vocal styling has the influence of jazz but can be quickly adapted to sucessfully perpetuate classical or country western. The zone where you can actually feel the hand of God in his every word is when he performs Old School Contemporary Gospel, and squalls sucessfully invoking the Holy Spirit as a young Aretha Franklin with no loss of vocal integrity in his upper registers. No pretense with his performance but only to praise God with a voice that's committed to adaptation...evolution...and influencing the world, for the cause of Christ.
