This march is dedicated to the VMA-214 Squadron of the United States Marine Corps. Based on the Pacific island of Vella Lavella, it took part in the Guadalcanal campaign between 1942 and 1943 and was equipped with Chance Vought F4U Corsairs, also known as l'uccellaccio because of the folded wings on its W-wing. The squadron was commanded by Major Gregory Boyington, who was not only one of the Marines' best pilots, but also a tireless troublemaker: he loved to get drunk, gamble and challenge his friends to wrestling matches in the middle of crowded bars. in the middle of crowded bars.
