“’Understanding’ is a simple plea for understanding and tolerance framed in a 70's soul inspired track”, Sarakula says. “It's a hymn to the streets and all the possibilities they offer: be they positive or negative. It was inspired by an incident that occurred on the street a few years ago in London - I was accused as being a gentrifying outsider and part of the problem in that area. My accuser was right, I am an outsider: I'm ultimately a complete outsider to anywhere in London as I originally come from Sydney, Australia. I chose London as a home as it offers a safe haven to people with different ideas and viewpoints from many diverse backgrounds. And in this melting pot of a city we've always been able to talk to each other. Even if we couldn't agree with each other, we could understand each other. But these kinds of conversations are slipping away from us in the current climate. Years of unnecessary austerity, anti-immigrant fake news in the right-wing tabloids and divide and conquer politics has almost broken the connections we share with each other on the street... almost but not yet. But this isn't a depressing song - it's a message of hope. It's the sweetest and most straightforward music I could produce.”
