Brand new!! Just uploaded this set that I recorded on the 4th of July, and it’s a combination of emotive, euphoric, summery-vibe tracks that I just loved. This mix was inspired by the joyous feelings we’re experiencing of finally coming out of COVID lock-down, being able to see friends and family and even people’s smiles again (w/o masks), and it just so happened that I went to see my very first DJ show on June 30th, which was also the day that the State of Washington removed most COVID-19 restrictions. To coincide with that ceremonious occasion, we had Anjunadeep rising star, Tom Marshall, a.k.a. MARSH, for the FIRST “Sunset Sessions On the Hiyu” DJ boat cruise since the pandemic began, and also my first show, of any sort whatsoever, since then as well. I am cautiously optimistic that life is returning back to normal, but I can’t imagine a more perfect event to have kicked it off than seeing Marsh play live out on the water in the lovely Puget Sound. I took that draw-bridge picture for the cover art for this mix from that very boat cruise as well! Anyway, I had been working on this demo set for a while and got to play it live at my DJ buddy Eric Weber’s annual DJ BBQ down in Tacoma, which was a blast, and also submitted a version of it for a guest DJ mix for DJ friend in Portland's “PFB Radio” podcast, but I really liked how this set turned out, and I hope you like it too. I know COVID is still here and not everyone is out of the woods yet, so no matter where you're located, just stay positive my friends, make sure to get vaccinated if you haven’t already (if you’re able to), and we’ll all get through this together. He first started dropping tracks just over a year ago, with his most recent jam - ‘Cause I Know You’ - appearing on SoundCloud only 18 days ago (how he hasn’t blown up yet is beyond me). ‘Cause I Know You’ is produced by Jolumar himself, which is fantastic because it certainly seems like he knows exactly the right kind of beats he needs to flow well. In just over four minutes, Jolumar rhymes and floats over some pretty surreal and hypnagogic beats; spitting a few verses before demonstrating his production abilities by allowing the beat to soar high and swoop low as it interweaves between vocal samples.
