I'm a Proof of Concept (POC)

Shade only from the brim of a hat
sweat trickles down the small of the back
on the horizon your sins catch up to you

fingers twitch over steel and lead
tightly tucked in a leather bed
eyes dart to the ruder closing in

high noon the desert plain
only dirt and sky
their running, but the is no escape
try as you might - there's no getting away

each second ticks closer to death
how do you run when you're out of breath?
stand your ground, back against the wall

black powder smoke in the air
3 to 1 shouldn't be fair
ears ring as dust settles down

from horseback he lowers his gun
"there's no pardon for men who run from the law"

critters crawl through shade of the night
desert cooled from the heat of the fight
3 bodies, only hoof prints lead away
