Description: "Think" is an acousmatic text-sound composition based on experiencing a close friend going through a temporary schizophrenic breakdown. The text is derived from phrases and jumbled text that I found on my friend's social media profiles, which was the only way I was able to interact with her during that time.

Thrymmatízo explores the relationship between timbral and temporal realms.  Throughout the work, the brief sounds of glass smashing (thrymmatízo translates from Greek as "shatter") coalesce into sustained textures while the elongated sounds of bowed glass fragment into brief moments.  These timbral differences form a dialogue that creates the work's main interest and conflict.

Jon Fielder is a native of Southeast Ohio currently living in Austin, TX where he is a DMA student in composition and an assistant instructor in the electronic music studios. Jon received his M.M. degree in composition in 2012 from Bowling Green State University where he studied primarily with Elainie Lillios and Mikel Kuehn.  He received B.M. degrees in both music composition and music theory from Ohio University in 2010 under the study of Mark Philips (composition) and Allyn Reily (theory). His music has been featured at the SEAMUS conference (2013), Electronic Music Midwest, Toronto International Electroacoustic Symposium, N-SEME, Electroacoustic Barn Dance Festival, KcEMA, the 2012 IDRS conference, Omaha Under the Radar, the Northern Ohio Music Exchange (NOMA), and the Olmsted Festival of the Arts. His piece "Sublimation" was premiered as part of Alex Sramek's call for scores for the Voxnovus 15-minutes of fame series. Jon was also the first recipient of the Mark Phillips Distinguished Professor award for composition in 2009 (Ohio University).

Jon's primary interests as a composer are rooted in electronic music, working with both fixed media and live electronics. These interests have also permeated into his acoustic writing, which shows strong interest in timbre, texture and spatialization. Jon also remains active as a researcher and music theorist. His primary interest is in music of the New Complexity school (particularly Franklin Cox and Brian Ferneyhough) and post-1945 Darmstadt composers, primarily Pierre Boulez and Luciano Berio.
