Locomotiv Breath by Jethro Tull, released in 1971, can and must be described as an anthem of rock history.
This is the second song we have covered by Jethro Tull, after Living in the Past. It has always been one of the songs I definitely wanted to cover.
And it took quite a while to dare to do so.
Manfred delivers perfect vocals, among other things.
I thought we could do a few things differently.
In my opinion, the passages that are supposed to express the pounding and puffing of the locomotive don't have enough drive in the original. Without further ado, I recorded some additional instruments that don't appear in the original.
The strings, which strive ever forward with their haunting staccato, underscoring the pounding of the locomotive.
Or the additional piano and organ, which melodically flank the quiet passages.
