Oldskool vibes all over the place! The Lunar EP contains four rolling Jungle tracks and pays tribute to this very special 90's sound. Expect once again: booming 808 basslines, splintering drums and emotive pads.

Sometimes you have to look backwards, to go forwards. These tunes are perfect examples for a rare and classic sound, which will definitely stand the test of time. So just have a listen or two and maybe you will be inspired from this EP!

ACID_LAB / "LUNAR PHASE" EP (OUT NOW ON BANDCAMP)

Mystery by name, mystery by nature. The Manchester-based masked DJ and producer prefers to lurk in the shadows. Under the moniker DR MYSTERY, she metamorphoses through different tempos and styles, blurring the lines between genres and sounds. After all, it's usually the bits that fall in between that are the most interesting.

These cerebral sonics make up her regular slots on radio, whether it’s something special for NTS or her Synesthesia project on Worldwide FM, in which she picked a colour for each show that guided her mix.

She first made her production debut back in 2020 with a slick melodic electro cut called 'Vecher' but this year her first long player entered the world. In May she released Far From Home via Ono, a dreamy album that connected the spirit of the mind and the body. 

This visceral quality continues on her newest release, Basquiat, a three-track EP for Manchester's Left, Right & Centre. Eerie soundscapes sit next to emotive melodies and crisp drum programming, all coming together to paint a picture of "urban skylines and vivid dancefloors of her life in Manchester".

Following the release we asked her to take control of this week's Shine A Light On mix. She's provided a very special recording that moves through haunting electronica, forceful DnB and heavyweight jungle cuts.

Sobolik, a Brooklyn-based producer, DJ, promoter and label curator is up next for Tapes #98. Co-heading the London label All Centre alongside Simkin and DJ Pitch, Sobolik has been turning heads over the past two years with futuristic club cuts on labels such as 3024, CloudCore, Woozy, and early reflex. Sobolik's world is filled with colour and hyperkinetic energy - not fitting in one box, their output reacts to a broad palette of styles across North American and UK club music traditions. 

In February, they released their third EP, entitled Packet Loss, in a debut collaboration with Kindergarten Records, joining modern bass scene luminaries like Ayesha, Sha Ru, and Stolen Velour at Brooklyn’s preeminent home of chaotic, forward-thinking digital percussion tracks.

 San Francisco via Detroit I was born looking for a way to throw a party and DJ. We turned an old cell shop into a record store, called it Red Sky and the rest is history. With a speakeasy club in the basement and a loft upstairs. In SF 2008 -2012 we ran the gauntlet of afterhours madness. Featuring dubstep kings like Hatcha, Scuba,N-type, Boxcutter, 2562 to name a few but also DirtyBird afterparties with Justin and Christian Martin and tons of other undergrounds with mainstays Taso, Antiserum,Bogl, Gen Nao and Dubsalive.
