Music can be defined in numerous ways by those who create and listen to it. For those always looking for newer ways to define it sonically, it's a continuous journey that is ever-evolving. In this 3rd installment of the minor INVENTION series, Jon continues to explore what's musically possible with the help of trumpeter Kris Johnson and drummer Marquis Johnson.

HOUSE HOUSE HOUSE PODCAST is back after a long hiatus. This episode features 2 Nigerian dance music legends - Afrologic and Ekiti Sound. 

On the guest mix duties is DJ/producer/radio presenter AFROLOGIC (Classic FM97.3 Lagos ) https://www.instagram.com/afrologicrecordings/ who offers us a dizzyingly upbeat and eclectic Afro Disco set. His venture into music was gradual but finally exploded with the critically acclaimed album "Ede Gidi" from the Jazzhole-Lagos label in 1997. 

Afrologic went on to record several other albums, working with Nigerian legends, Fatai Rolling Dollar, Keziah Jones plus collaborations with artistes such as Portugal’s Octa Push, Angola’s D.J Satelite, plus Kenya’s Just A Band, and Wangechi. 

Remix credits include; Fela & Koola Lobitos Viva Afrika (2010), Fela & Roy Ayers Africa Centre Of The World (2012), Fela/Bob Marley M.O.P/Exodus (2013), and, Fela & Egypt 80 Pansa Pansa (2017)- theme songs for Felabration Lagos, and recently Nigerian Club Classics Remixed 1 (2021). 

He fronts the band, Afrologic - with featured vocalist Temi Oyedele, for which he has produced 3 LP’s. He also coordinates Afrologic Recordings, a digital record label.

Our artist interview is none other than the musician/producer/vocalist, EKITI SOUND (https://www.instagram.com/ekitisound/) aka Leke aka CHiF, a Lagos-based electronic music producer. His sound is an original blend and fusion of his influences living between Lagos and London. It’s a staccato propulsion of afro-juju polyrhythms, contemporary Lagos "street-style" vocals and complex textures fed through drum & bass and sound system circuitry.

The artist’s award-winning 2019 debut album ABEG NO VEX is a record whose production ingenuity nuanced a new chapter in the Afro-fusion sound, while asserting the vocalist and producer as a maverick who’s ready to keep pushing boundaries. Look out for a new single called “aLAcarte pt2” in May and his new album “Drum Money” this June, all coming out on Crammed Disks in 2023.

[PSMDUB005] Trinidadian Deep - Jah Fe Movements

Phuture Shock Musik keeps it moving with No. 5 in their limited dubplate series, which sees deep house titan Trinidadian Deep return to the Bristol imprint with a 2-track juggernaut of  percussion-heavy riddims and mystical frequencies; entitled ‘Jah Fe Movements’ b/w ‘Casa Profunda’. 

Picking up where he last left off on PSM; with 2021’s ‘Dub Rockas’ EP, and following a recent remix for label mate Rosie From The Block, the NYC-based producer delivers a sure-fire pair of secret weapons, that once again captures his inimitable brand of deeply spiritual house music, with a typically rich medley of African, Caribbean and Latin influences oozing throughout.

Fronting the A-Side is the meditative vibes of ‘Jah Fe Movements’ a tech-infused heater for the late-nighters, where driving 4/4 kicks and frenzied percussion charge forth in unison with an entrancing keyboard riff, largely engulfed by a smoky haze of livity chants and bubbling dubtronic tones immersed in reverb and delay. On the flip is the uplifting, Afro-Latin-flavoured rhythms of ‘Casa Profunda’, which by contrast is a more sky-facing affair but no less aimed at the dancefloor as the lead cut, awash with breezy, euphoric pads and jazzy sax licks, that meander between sultry Latina vocals hovering over percussion-fuelled beats and a rolling bass groove with a tropical bounce.
