I reworked my 2009 version of Dylan’s The Times They Are Changin’ for the U.S TV series - The Astronaut Wives Club. The song is featured in Episode 8 'Abort'. I imagine the song will be included on the soundtrack release for the show at some point soon.

The Times They Are Changin’ - reworked

Refuge is a road song in every sense of the word. The music came to me while staying at my friend Svavar Knútur's apartment in Reykjavík after we ventured on the road together playing shows throughout Iceland. I began thinking, what more is there? Life is about living in these moments and we shouldn't be afraid to die, but instead be afraid to not live to our fullest. I finished writing the song in Svavar's cabin in the remote north of Iceland, where I also recorded it during my final week there in September 2010.

In 2000 Fred E Gostein from Melbourne's PBS FM wrote a review for an independent solo acoustic album recorded in 1999, titled 'Rising the Strays'. "Byron's music 
possesses a special magnetism...he is a man not afraid to open his heart to the masses".

The Dirty Royals formed in February 2002, with July seeing the independently released solo EP (recorded in 2001), 'Songs from the Blue Parade'. Iain Fugue from Molotov Records (UK) gave it a 4.8 out of 5 and stated Jona as being "...a class apart" The song ‘Goodnight to The Moon’ became highly praised locally and internationally. 

Jona Byron and The Dirty Royals have been described as a dynamic original line-up, conjuring Latin, folk-noir, dark urban waltzes and alternative rock into a soulful and well-crafted band, comprising Ryan Hughes on bass, Adam Dempsey on drums and violinist Malini Chidzey. 

In the song 'Dying On the Vine' Jona describes his struggles in poetic beauty. It's about 'the song', not the machine, and that's what makes Jona Byron one of the strongest independent singer/songwriters in the country today.

Black Bird Fly (studio out-take)

Arguably the most 'boats' inspired and sounding Jona Byron song ever produced. A dark road trip between two lovers, lost without a map to guide them – written back in 2005 during a particularly difficult period. Taken from the up and coming album 'The Backbone of Night' due 2018. The album is retrospective work from recordings that date as far back as 2005. Many tracks have seen a complete makeover, however this dark beauty retains the original vocal track, recorded back in 2005, with some additional instrumentation.

Eyes on Zion is a song that used to be one of the stand out rock anthems in our (Dale and I) live concerts believe it or not. You should've been there …

I recorded this demo on the 24th July 2009. It's never been heard before and a studio band version of the song was never recorded. What you have here is a fragile first take … very intimate and very fragile. Enjoy - jb x

Eyes on Zion (acoustic version)

Jona Byron is a fiercely independent singer-songwriter and soundtrack composer, who has also worked on and off as a producer over the years. Jona has released several independent EPs and 2 albums and his debut album 'Extinct Hearts' was released through Popboomerang Records in 2009. Additionally, Jona has also been a formative member of the instrumental group The Boats, and produced and mixed their second album 'Segundo' and worked on their third and final studio album ‘2 Bears’ with Neil Thomason. Some of Jona’s other projects in the works include, the ambient project – Akuna, and a more recent piano based instrumental project. Byron has recently returned to the live stage with new material, experimenting with electronica, soul and his trademark guitar sound.
