Nothing much is being known about Vincenz Schuster. Not only was he a guitarist in the first half of the 19th century Vienna, but also a cellist who did the premiere of Schubert´s famous "Arpeggione"-Sonata (written 1824). These variations on a bohemian folksong are his eighth composition.

One of the numerous works for guitar by spanish 19th century composer Julian Arcas, aka under the title "Fantasia sobre el paño". He also was one of the first to write down flamenco music.
Due to the fact that Arcas was Francisco Tarrega´s teacher and his collaboration with the guitarmaker Antonio de Torres (who "restructured" the spanish guitar back then) it is somehow astonishing that Arcas doesn´t have a bigger reputation. Maybe there will be an "Arcas-boom" sometime... ;-) How bout now? We might either celebrate his 180th birthday (*1832) or the 130th year of his death (+1882). Just pick one. ;-)

This one is from Mertz´s second issue of his "Bardenklänge", op.13. 
In total there are 15 of these "Hefte" (booklets) with each of them containing between one and four small pieces. Very lovely music!
