Yorkshire's finest, James Welsh returns to Phantasy with a blistering pair of charismatic and heavy-duty electro jams, released as a digital exclusive.

‘D974’ quickly explodes into a full-bore warehouse banger, throughout which Welsh employs rave stabs and cavernous basslines to eye-watering effect. Nonetheless, amid the madness, Welsh’s taste for psychedelia peeks through the darkness and into the strobe light.

On the contrary, 'Boltmaker' reintroduces Welsh's more nuanced commitment to analogue electronics and sheer suspense, riding along on a razor-sharp groove that undulates between flourishes of melody that prove to be in turn both menacing and surprisingly meditative.

Italian DJ and producer Manuold returns to Madhouse this February as he unveils his ‘Smiles’ EP. Following a busy 2019 which saw releases via the likes of DJ Steaw’s House Puff and Spanish imprint Esuoh, not to mention a contribution to Madhouse’s ‘MMXIX’ Various Artists compilation, late-February sees Italian talent Emanuele Macagone, aka Manuold, deliver his first full EP on the label as he returns with his four-track ‘Smiles’ EP. Lead cut ‘Smiles’ sees Macagone combine slick organic production licks alongside bright synth stabs and resonant vocal hooks, before ‘This Is Power’ reveals a series of hazy lead melodies atop of skipping drums and further slick vocal work. Next up, the paired back ‘Sweet Groove’ welcomes a well-worked balance of evolving synths at its core, before closing the package out via ‘Old Tradition’ – a slick, chord-driven final cut that feels perfectly at home on Chandler’s ever-impressing imprint

'Ryan Crosson takes care of the fifth EP on tastemaking Detroit label My Baby Records with a fantastically forward-looking four-track vinyl offering.

Ryan Crosson is a complex artistic creature who has roamed far and wide in his storied career. His always innovative music has come on groundbreaking labels including Wagon Repair, M_nus, Spectral Sound, and of course his own Visionquest. Each time he explores a new sound world and draws on things as diverse as musique concrète, Downtown New York funk, and East African jazz. Now he cooks up more beguiling brilliance on this fresh new EP.

Opener 'Speaker Dubs' is a deep, bubbly rhythm track with dub chords rippling out to infinity. It's a stylish track full of far-sighted reverence and supple groove that locks you in a trance. 'Ogilvie' is a piece of absorbing ambient with found sound recordings of muffled voices that sounds like you're in an underground station.

B-side opener 'FutureTheory' is another minimal masterpiece with glitchy sound design and eerie chords peeling off a tight, kinetic groove. Ghoulish voices add more late-night atmosphere and the whole track grows ever darker and more consuming as it unfolds. The excellent 'OortCloud' takes you back to the heart of a dance-floor with futuristic menace: the smooth drum loops are militant, the voices are dehumanised and the searching synths speak of a desolate landscape. It's heady, brilliantly bleak stuff that is utterly infectious.

This is another hugely inventive EP from one of the underground's most consistent talents.'
