'Canadian multi-talent juSt b returns to UK imprint Configurations of Self, following her recent Bedrock EP, for her 3rd collaboration with Leeds-based producer & label head, Alexander Church, welcoming back James Welsh & Italian producer Vincenzo on remix duties.

With previous support from some of the underground’s finest, including John Digweed, Nick Warren, Jamie Stevens, Animal Trainer, Gai Barone, and BBC’s Erol Alkan & Tom Ravenscroft, the innovative, psychology-inspired label & its experimental offshoot, Life Scripts, has seen consistent exceptional output in just a few years. For the Configurations series, that translates now to the 16th EP since its inception in October 2019.

juSt b again demonstrates her deep-thinking lyrical prowess with a new pair of elegantly crafted mindful narratives, themed around renowned Canadian Transactional Psychologist, Eric Berne, fused with Church’s signature rolling melodies. The first original, ‘Ego States’, begins by probing the depths of our most basic social interactions with the question ‘what’s really going on’ within the parent-adult-child dynamic & the often negative lifelong behaviours resulting from confusion & shifting of these roles.

James Welsh, a frequent studio partner & regular on the label, transforms the six minutes into a bold futuristic dance cut, boasting an acidy electro bass riff and sultry vox chop which adds a layer of warmth & moodiness to this edgy rework.

Next up, ‘Games People Play’ and its jabbing tribalesque kick/snare combo commence a more sinister portrayal of the various manipulative mind & power games we all play in our daily relationships. An eerie hypnotic synth line twists its way beyond the drop, creating a more nebulous atmosphere, perfect for the darkest of dingy dance floors.
Rounding out the 4-tracker, Berlin’s Vincenzo once again adds his classic soulful swing, giving the ominous original a lighter, playful bassline & airy daytime feel, while preserving juSt b’s vocal impact.'

Gorje Hewek follows up last year’s impressive ‘Life EP’, with a new 5-track package brimming with collaborative spirit. The work also marks the Watergate label debut of the legendary Hernan Cattaneo.
 
The artist is a mainstay of the All Day I Dream collective and a master of intricately woven electronic compositions, which also transfix the dancefloor. For his return contribution to Watergate Records he brings a string of cohorts in toe – Dulus, Polo & Molac from his excellent Shanti Records imprint, alongside ADID affiliate Roy Rosenfeld and Argentinean great Cattaeno.
 
The opener ‘Altitude’ is a dreamy bass-driven heater that unfolds beautifully over an eight-minute period and is highlighted by a key driven melody that’s both playful and emotive. ‘Astro World’ is an eclectic slice of organic house that captivates with a string-laden break before dropping down into a rhythmic second half. The EP’s title track is a silky sunset cut resplendent with twinkling pads that has enough groove to seduce a dusty dancefloor. ‘Vida’ begins life as a slinky percussive jam, before the dam breaks and a colourful river of melody drives the track home. We welcome Fabrication back to the spotlight with a very special release, his debut album titled: Colors, our first of this nature and one project we are very proud to be working with him on.

Moving through a range of different sounds, genres and atmospheres, with inspiration heavily derived from thoughts and feelings, all relevant to his story and the message he is trying to portray through his music.

The all round emerging theme that emerges within the albums progression was a specific relation to the unpredictable, emotional nature of life. A unifying association of experiences and emotions

For him, the lead line in Colors (both the title and closing track) felt like it was a torch or spirit that was finally able to be drawn from the journey – one that pulls the story together and moves through a calm, relieving and triumphant energy.

What this album really represents is a sort of unifying association of experiences and emotions with which he feels all life on earth shares. When you put all the difference aside, we all experience the uncertainties of life together. We Love, We Suffer, We Bleed.
