Whether you’re a hardcore junglist or not, you’ll know about the south-east London DJ and production team Tantrum Desire. Their releases and remixes have become regular fixtures of radio and raves around the globe, even crossing over to daytime schedules.
Those in the know will already have heard the world
exclusive first play of Fly Away on Friction’s Radio 1 show.
This draws you in with head-nodding percussive synths,
building through an old skool tempo-shifting vocal hook
before dropping you into a rough-edged bassline and
beats that are bound to get the dancefloor jumping.
Tantrum Desire’s ultra-clean technique comes to the fore as they intertwine rave stabs, the soon- to-be-classic vocal riff and rising atmospherics into a statement of the state of the bassline art for 2013.
Then, in Get Back, there’s another side of this year’s sound, as Tantrum Desire go trap. Their sharply-honed production style works perfectly with the slower tempo, allowing ravers to revel in the snap of every snare and the shuffle of each syncopated sample. This is a track that continues to build energy, adding more and more layers of rhythmical complexity. Ravers won’t be able to help moving to this one.
A Radio Edit of Fly Away completes the package, for those of you who think your listeners aren’t quite ready for the full Club Mix experience.
