Israeli DJ and producer Johnny Deep aka Yonathan Dahan makes his full release debut with Bonzai on the ever popular Eyepatch imprint with his own brand of delectable deep tech. Johnny got a taste for electronica after listening to top jocks in the 90's, he spent three years in and around Detroit as well as other parts of the US and Canada. He gained a mountain of music experience which he took back to Israel where performs at all the big parties and does his part to keep the underground scene alive. "Portal Steps" intros with a deep throbbing bass alongside cool vocal samples and percussion arrangements. "Soulvation" is Johnny's next track and comes in the form of his Deeper Dub. A much deeper vibe is evident with a slower tempo driving the grooves. Very well crafted percussions and FX work tie the track up beautifully while a super smooth deep, infectious baseline brings up the rear. On the break classy synths do their work and force you to shake that ass, great stuff

Johnny Deep (aka Yonathan Dahan) - Until You Love Me [release date 09.03]

Johnny Deep returns to Eyepatch with the delicious four tracker, Flowting Up, and he enlists the talented Pierre Lusthilia on two of the tracks which is a real treat. It was back in mid 2014 that we last saw him with Down The Road and since then his tracks have been gracing many compilations and DJ sets. Johnny remains firmly rooted at the centre of the Israeli electronic music scene as he continues to dish out top quality cuts. As always we are delighted with his latest offering and we know you will be too. First up we have the sultry smooth deep house grooves of Flowting Up. We get drawn right into those deep grooves from the off as soft strings are matched against a strong punchy kick drum that dominates the sound. Subtle percussions form up and provide an ample rhythm to the track as a penetrating pulsing bass hypnotizes the mind. A real sultry affair that will make you sway the night away. Next up we have I Luv You To The Bone with Pierre Lusthilia. The intro boasts a superb display of drum arrangement as various slapped drums pair up with a cool punchy kick as a probing bass eases its way through the sound. Classic house chord stabs lurk in the distance before fading through to become the lead element. The track gathers pace as a cool vocal comes in alongside various percussions. On the break those house chords make their presence felt with a hefty dose of awesome filters. Top notch stuff that will get the floors moving for sure. Until You Love Me intros with a simple hat and vocal combi before being joined by a well rounded kick drum that gets the groove moving nicely. A lazy analog styled bass meanders through the sound as various other vocals are introduced. The rhythm picks up as the percussions build, creating a smooth, grooving deep house sound. Warm keys add a wonderful texture and are contrasted by a much sharper plucked sound later on. A definite late night mover here you will not want to miss. Rounding off this great pack we have Com'on Move with Pierre Lusthilia. Cool crispy hats bring the track to life and sets the rhythm up nicely for the duration. Nice big chunky kicks join in as the bass finds its way through with its pulsing groove. Deep House flavours ooze out of the sound through the superb keys that work effortlessly alongside the bass. A big feature here is the varying vocals which adds a seamless flow to the rhythm and gives off a kind of oldskool garage vibe. Another superb cut from this duo.

“They say music is an expression of the soul –  mine  happens to express alot ”, says someone who has found himself at the center of Israel's electronic music scene since 2006. The passionate musician from Hertzelia city has become a heavy influence for some of the top producers nationwide. With his debut release “Moonrain” Yonathan Dahan has reached yet another highpoint in his musical journey. 

Yonathan started his musical journey in the Detroit underground scene, absorbing the art of DJ’ing thru performances by the highest skilled DJ’s of the 90’s. These included Mix Master Mike, Beat Junkies, Richie Hawtin, derrick May and many others grounded in that era of music. 

The summer of 2000 was a turning point for this up and comer. After attending the back stages of the first Detroit Electronic Music Festival where Richie Hawtin and other huge acts were dominating the main stage, influence started to take effect and his passion for electronic music started to sprout. 

Arriving back in Israel with all that was stored in his  archives of 3 years in Detroit, around the US and Canada, Yonathan began his musical journey to the top thresholds of the underground scene in Tel Aviv. 

Where Detroit represented a softer side of electronica, Israel was dominated by the hard-edged sounds of Psy and Progressive Trance. As the genre of music changed, so did the venues and before long Yonathan was DJ’ing some of Israel’s top Clubs, Festivals and Nature Parties, establishing an industry name that was nonparallel to what the local scene had seen before. The result, simply “Jonny Dubs Style”, as it is know in the depths of the Israeli underground scene. 

With the influences of progressive trance and minimal techno nuances spiced by the flows and baselines of hip-hop, we hear sounds that shake our very soul. His rhythmatic combination and energetic display is what was compiled over years of changing electronic trends, while constantly adapting to cultural music demands.

Yonathan’s music is as enthusiastic as he is, both as a DJ and live artist and always pushing forward. But there is one statement that holds true for all that he produces; they are certainly of the highest aptitude. If your soul too is guided by the sounds and grooves of electronic rhythms, be ready to possibly loose a piece of it....
