I felt like revisiting the silk librairies and having some fun with the erhu and xiao patches. I was going for some sort of blend between eastern and western orchestral music. Hopefully it doesn't sound out of place!

The piece is about finding resolve. Inner strength forgotten with time, perhaps buried in doubt, and how it erupts to help overcome the encumbrance.

This piece was a bit of an experiment inspired by the Mass Effect OST. I wanted to try my hand at some hybrid synth/orchestral passages to try and get a more ambient sci-fi sound.

I was a bit out of my comfort zone, but it's nice to learn some new techniques once in a while!

A little about the piece:
This composition was inspired from a sculpture by John Fleming, my grandfather, titled "Ascension Attempt". The forged bronze figure depicts a man beaming upwards determined to reach the heavens his own way.

“8Dio Demo-Composer Test “Ace” by Jonathan Fleming-Bock

In honor of Super Metroid's 30th anniversary, I wanted to have a bit of fun and remix one of its most iconic tracks: Lower Brinstar. Hope you enjoy!

My thanks and utmost respect goes to Kenji Yamamoto and all those who brought us this masterpiece of a game that will forever remain one of my all time favorites.

In the remix, I wanted to emphasize and bring to the forefront the rhythmic aspect that is subtle in the more atmospheric original piece. I imagined a more menacing, determined energy as if Samus was in a hostile environment but fierce in her conviction to complete her mission. I also wanted to bring in some more oriental instruments such as the ghuzeng and xiao as the original hinted to me to have some eastern scales in some areas. I also opted to blend synths with the more acoustic orchestral sounds as a nod to the games original soundtrack being a blend of sci-fi with more traditional orchestral scores.

It's been quite a while, hasn't it? Figured it was about time I finished a piece! Finally got around to putting more than just an hour or two a week into getting my new template setup with my recently acquired Hollywood Orchestra libraries on my new PC. 

This piece started blossoming in my head quite some time ago and has been changing so much everytime I've sat down to work on it. I was so busy with work that weeks would go buy between my composing sessions and the result might feel a bit disjointed as my mind was never in the same spot I had left it! Hope you enjoy the result nonetheless...

About the piece:
This piece was composed and produced on and off over the last month in my free time from work/life. It's all about dedication and having to start somewhere; inching your way steadily towards a better you, each step a foundation for the next in a journey of growth and discovery while not forgetting where you came from. 

Hopefully the theme and concept is conveyed through the music and layering of instruments.

In this piece, I wanted to test out some of the instruments in the EWQL Silk libraries and try my hand at an eastern sounding piece. I don't know much about music from that part of the world so I'm probably breaking a few rules and traditions, but I think it turned out pretty good for the most part. I'm not even sure the Guzheng can be tuned like this!

I also wanted to really have fun with the percussions. Perhaps it's a bit excessive, but I wanted it to be rhythmic and bombastic.

I wanted to convey the idea of a steady and confident march with a ramping up of the tempo to make it feel like a charge was commencing. That being said I always like to attenuate the main idea with some contrasting segments.
