Scientists recorded a series of short, crackling pulses created by a rig shark, thought to be the first documented instance of a shark actively producing sound.

This string quartet was composed in response to the numerous killings of unarmed African Americans, their unprovoked and sometimes brutal arrests, as well as the mass murder at the Pulse Nightclub. It uses as its course material the refrain of the Negro Spiritual "Listen to the Lambs All a-cryin'." This melody is abstracted to create interval sets, generate additional melodic lines/accompaniment lines, and harmonies. Two additional pitches were added to offer additional variety.

Follow the Drinking Gourd is a suite of incidental music composed for the story of the Underground Railroad. The narration is from the book _Follow the Drinking Gourd_ by Jeannette Winter, used with her permission. This performance is with the Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra, featuring the Marian Anderson String Quartet as soloists. The Brazos Valley SO commissioned this adaptation of my work, originally composed in 1999, adapted for string quartet in 2014.

Composer, husband, dad, grandfather, lover of dogs, and faculty member at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and church musician. Kindness and gratitude are daily practices for me. Music is a way of connecting with a stream of creative, positive energy and channeling it for the benefit of others and oneself. Each year, I produce concerts and collaborative programs, most often featuring music of living composers. I seek to help my composition students develop their own voices as composers, and to cultivate a passion for music in my Musicianship students.
