The collaborative work of Nanno and Jonathan is formed through a common interest in noise, the textural, electroacoustics, and field recording. Their methodology stems from improvisation, sight specificity, and the use of minimal equipment. 

@nannosimonis Nanno Simonis is a Dutch visual and sonic artist exploring the fabric of our world, seeing the artificial and distortion, alternation, and repositioning of reality.

@lyl_radio Jonathan Castro invites @felicity-mangan for one hour of quasi-bioacoustic sounds and dirty field recordings. 

Felicity Mangan is an Australian sound artist and composer based in Berlin, Germany since 2008. In different situations such as solo performances, collaborative projects with other musicians, or site-specific sound work. Felicity exploring the biorhythms and timbres of her found and self-recorded animal voices create minimal quasi-bioacoustic sound works. Felicity has released a solo publication on Longform Editions titled Stereo’frog’ic, a play on the word stereophonic – presenting a sound piece crafted from found recordings of frogs, insects, and other ‘vocal’ animals wavering about in a stereo field.

Jonathan invites Andreas Tegnander for an hour of ambient, abstructures, and field recordings. 

Andreas Tegnander (NO/NL 1995) is a Norwegian multimedia artist and composer based in Amsterdam. Through the concept of ""public sensory organs,"" he merges architecture, music composition, installation art, and music technology. With new media artworks, sonic sculptures, and installations, he has exhibited at, among others, Base Milano, Van Abbemuseum in Einthoven, Coda Museum in Apeldoorn, and Het Hem Kunsthal in Zaandam. In collaboration with choreographer Justin de Jager, he has composed music for dance theaters such as Korzo Theatre in The Hague, DOX Theatre in Utrecht, and Scapino Ballet in Rotterdam.

Jump the rusted stiles when no one is looking. From here, the way is downward. Past the dried-up canal, past the metal sheds, down further through the empty overpass with its coarse concrete walls. At the bottom, there’s a small pond of standing water—a reservoir, a dull mirror for the sun, casting the green in a radiant glow.

Look closely for a while. Train your eyes on the glare of the surface. Perhaps you will begin to see the opposite of your descent. The water becomes its own underside. Spindly white lines shoot upwards, pushing past the minerals, the heavy metals and the plastic remains. These are the roots of the ruderal species, the hardiest, the weeds and invasives. Like craftsmen, they take whatever they can use.

The city eats itself, again and again. There will always be another boundary to jump. Along other canals, down the slopes of railway embankments, between demolition sites, the radiance of a thousand other empty zones already shines

Maika Garnica's practice is the relationship between the environment, the spectator, and the artist. She often applies prototypes to comprehend the complex relation between form and matter while instigating the position of the body as a vehicle for social connections. Through various contextual variations the nature of the work shifts spontaneously from sculptures, utilitarian objects to sound installations.

We recently collaborated by thinking about traces, emptiness, cracks, dirtiness, and porosities but mainly by delving into time as a crucial factor to counteract urban development’s predictable and almost anti-urban processes. Through multiple ways of documentation, we explored how the act of recording and framing can influence an urban memory and its potential future. For this show, we searched for the edges of Marken, a Dutch peninsula and major tourist attraction in Noord-Holland.

For the October show of The Locus on @lyl_radio, I invited sonic artist Luis Lecea Romera @luislecea , an artist, composer, and lecturer based in Amsterdam and Madrid, with a background in architecture and contemporary music. His practice manipulates material and aural spaces through site-relational installations, compositions, and performances. Employing recorded and archival sound, altered objects, and audio-spatial instruments, his work elaborates on our relationship to loss and the socio-political significance of decay, exploring the affective and narrative capabilities of vibration and resonance set against bodily, architectural, and landscape contexts.

Jonathan Castro is a graphic designer and artist from Lima who has been based in Amsterdam since 2017. his practice usually involves an assemblage of fragments, parts with various qualities and identities. these fragments are generally a collection of recorded sounds, photos taken during my walks, textures, traces, and objects that I later use as raw material to create visual and sonic languages.

Jonathan will put together some wild wax from chicha, cumbia, salsa, and dub!
